And now we have Peter taking care of Edmund, too, which is nice. I like that brief description of how being back in England, children again, affected all of them...Edmund, pulling away into brooding silence again, is believable. Peter's "drinking problem" is briefer than implied by your other piece, thankfully; I don't see him as allowing himself that crutch long.

I really "get" this Edmund, and what you said in another comment about him being Peter's support. I'm best that way, myself-I can do stuff, but don't like being in the forefront or having the focus on me...I prefer doing the analyzing in the background and giving critique and information. So I understand his comparative reticence and do NOT undervalue it in any way. :)

I love how Peter's hoping Edmund's going to really cut loose on Caspian, either verbally (I'm sure he's got a cutting edge to that Silvertongue *laughs*) or by beating him with the flat of his sword. It *is* amusing that Edmund's the one who's so extra exasperated with Caspian. Peter's too caught up in their rivalry and worrying about tactics and stuff; Susan's apparently not impressed with the calf's eyes and I doubt Lucy's registering him much. Edmund is, as you say, also young-old and was known for his cleverness and ability to give advice in council...and here's this young pup, piddling all over the place. *snorts*

I also love the easy intimacy between Peter and Edmund, and how comfortable and affectionate they are together in their own way. They may tease each other but I think they ultimately like each other better than anyone else. Brothers *and* friends.
