Game of Thrones 1.09 and 1.10, brief thoughts (mostly on 1.10)
GUYS IT'S ARYA AND THE TRAVELING NIGHT'S WATCH CIRCUS. Oh my gods, for whatever reason, I'm more excited about this than anything else in the entire show, which is really funny, because I didn't really care one way or another in the books. It's the traveling Night's Watch circus! Maybe it's just the way that scene was played, but I am way way excited for this part of season two, awesome.
Eh, I'm not entirely in love with what they've been doing with Tyrion across the course of the show -- they've been cutting lines and scenes I think are pretty important for his character. I'm mostly thinking of 1.09 here; they're trying to both romanticize him and make him the comic relief. The battle scene -- or him getting knocked out before he makes it to the battle, I guess; I wish they'd gone ahead and put him in the actual battle instead of doing a literal fade to black. And I'm really pissed that when he was telling the story about Tysha, they left out the gold coin portion of the story. Since that comes up again in the series. I guess I can see him leaving that out while he tells it to Shae and Bronn, and then telling the truth later, but... *hands*
Another line I'm bewildered they left out, in 1.10, is the last part of Mirri Maz Duur's prophecy to Dany -- "when you bear a living child." Are they leaving it out because GRRM changed his mind? Or are they just leaving it out to leave it out? Like, this logic I don't understand.
I love Sansa bunches. Bunches and bunches. Oh, honey.
FUCK YEAH ROBB STARK KING IN THE NORTH.
Jaime, I love you too.
Okay, now that I've gotten my favorite characters out of the way.
DRAGONS. Awesome. Go you, Dany.
Um um um...I liked the scene with Littlefinger and Varys a lot, I think that was really well done.
I still think we don't get enough of the direwolves. In this episode, we got two of five! Which is a better proportion than we've gotten in the rest of the series, and we really should have gotten Summer and Grey Wind as well, and another shot of Ghost. But I have the feeling this is something that will continue to irritate me throughout the series.
That was a really excellent ending. All four of them or so.
Okay, now I want to go into rereads. Excellent.
