Okay, when did Tirian hook up with Jewel? During their childhoods, yes, when Erlian was still alive, but when exactly? *muses* I bet after Tirian did something really stupid and reckless and Erlian (or Altagracia?) decided that giving Tirian a companion his own age would be a great idea.

He's called Jewel, and he's a milk-white unicorn friend of a King. I'd be more surprised if he wasn't.

*thoughtfully* I bet Erlian hooked him up with Tirian after Tirian got arrested by the Provost's Guard, and Altagracia said something along the lines of, "Boys will be boys, dear."

*cough* The Four. Of that special type of Cair Paravel aristocrat who believes that the Kings and Queens of Summer aren't gods, per se, and that that belief is limited solely to the lower classes. Which it isn't, clearly, but you know how it goes...

Somehow I'm not positive Erlian thought this all the way through; it's not like having a unicorn trailing your every step is actually going to stop Tirian going out partying in the Garden District. (Especially on a couple of occasions when Jewel put his, uh, hoof down and Tirian shrugged and snuck out anyway. Look, Tirian had one of those childhoods.)

At best, another nature power, like the river gods or the spirits of the forest. At worst, pure historical figures. Something like that, anyway, even they probably aren't entirely certain.

Do they have the same connotations of virginity? Because it might put a damper on some things. Also, can unicorns get drunk? Because if they can't Jewel would be an even better chaperone.

Nope. Unicorns in Narnia are just like anyone else. And I'm sure they can get drunk; it just probably takes them longer than humans because they've got considerably greater body mass...although on the other hand I'm sure the wine stains are much more obvious on their coats.
