Omerta outline (for [profile] limmenel)

A-Case

murder of Darin Pagliuca

suspect: Joey Sforza

however body not actually Pagliuca's, actually a John Doe

Darin Pagliuca missing

Pagliuca Family knows something has happened to Darin, but assumes he is alive. Suspects Constantine Family was behind it, but doesn't know for sure. Knows Joey Sforza has been taken into custody by NYPD.

Constantine Family knows JD isn't Darin Pagliuca through Ace's spies. Assumes Darin has been kidnapped by Patriso Family to frame Constantine.

Pagliuca Family isn't declaring war on Constantine. Why? Doesn't know for certain Constantine is behind Darin's disappearance. Assumes (correctly) Constantine has been set up. How do they know Darin Pagliuca is alive? Something went wrong.

Fat Freddy Patriso wants Constantine dead. Period. Blue Eyes Patriso more sensible, wants to be capo di tutti capi. Or wants his father dead and to set a puppet don up as boss of all bosses. Or wants Fat Freddy to be boss of all bosses and to be "power behind the throne." Goes along with Fat Freddy's plan to frame Constantine, but sends Sphinx in to kill Fat Freddy's operative (not in CODIS or AFIS - who?) and kidnap Darin Pagliuca. Thus blackmail Nicky Pagliuca into dethroning Fat Freddy and stepping down as head of the Mafia Commission while making the new Patriso boss (either Blue Eyes or a puppet boss) capo di tutti capi.

Fat Freddy knows something went wrong with plan, doesn't know who's behind it. Sends hit sqaud to Todt Hill to kill Astra Pagliuca and frame Constantine. Would have worked if Ace, Mac, and Stella weren't there.

Pagliuca knows Blue Eyes has Darin, knows Fat Freddy tried to kill Astra. Knows Constantine's not behind it because of Ace's involvement, Blue Eyes' demands, and because Constantine's not stupid.

Patriso wanted to set Constantine against the Commission, have Pagliuca declare war on Constantine and have them wipe each other out. Fat Freddy wants to be capo di tutti capi. Patriso strong; considered insane and unstable by other Families. Probably would not have become capo di tutti capi. Pagliuca, Dellacroce, Patriso, Lancione, Rocchegiani. Has Patriso taken other Families into account? Probably not. Working off the assumption that Dellacroce boss (who?) is too young to become boss of all bosses and Lancione and Rocchegiani are too weak. Rocchegiani boss (John Valachi) in jail. New boss or acting boss? Probably acting boss. Lancione boss (who?) also in jail. Constantine not one of the Five Families and often works outside the Commission purview. Not popular with Families because of this. What about out of town Families? Dellamonaca considered unimportant, too close to Philly, has internal problems. Rossi-Prete has many internal problems, fractured, targetted by FBI, warring against itself. Dell'ferrare too weak, still trying to gain foothold in Boston, too new. No outta-towner problems. Threeway Family war: Pagliuca-Constantine-Patriso.

Constantine doesn't know what's going on. Knows Darin Pagliuca is missing, probably not dead (Ace's spies - in Pagliuca Family or Patriso Family?), probably set up by Patriso Family. Knows Joey was framed (was with Carmine most of the evening, watching Danny), can't prove it to NYPD. Val trying to set up meeting with Nicky Pagliuca, but being stonewalled. Where's Nicky? Sent wife to...where? Probably not Jersey, Philly, Boston - too much chance of Patriso spies/agents. Probably Miami - out of the way, has connections. Nicky not in city. Where? Rochester, maybe. Out of the way, but not too far away, easily defendable, can avoid NYPD. Why Astra still in city? Refused to leave, stubborn, will look suspicious if NYPD can't find any Pagliuca. Patriso must have a spy in Pagliuca, probably Astra's bodyguard, whacked when house was attacked.

Val doesn't care about Family problems. Wants his men out of trouble. Wants Joey out of jail, wants Patriso's target scope pointed away from him and Danny. Knows Commission affects his business, prefers to keep relationship with Commission cordial. Wants to know what's going on with Pagliuca so can get Joey out of jail and protect Ace from wrath of Patriso Family. Dragged in deeper because of Ace's involvement in attempted hit on Astra. Patriso sees Constantine and Pagliuca both know Pagliuca knows Constantine's not to blame, prepares more direct method to whack Val. Drag in another Family? Maybe.

Nicky calls Commission an hour before Freddy and Sammy are whacked. He knows something is going to happen; Blue Eyes orders him to do it, has Astra Pagliuca at Blue Eyes' house in Staten Island on the phone with Nicky to verify that Darin's alive. Astra texts Ace, gives address and says "something bad's gonna happen." Blue Eyes has Patriso men in Christopher Caponigro Building, surorunding Commission chamber. As soon as he's declared don, Patriso soldiers will shoot to kill, mean to kill all bosses and underbosses. Blue Eyes means to take control of the Mafia while the Families are regrouping, knows that with the bosses and underbosses dead, the power struggles should tear the Families apart. Possible plan to take out capos, consiglieres, street bosses, heirs as opportunity presents itself. Constantine Family should be only viable opposition, Blue Eyes must know this, the guy plans for all eventualities, has plan for Constantine? He must. Does he expect Constantine to oppose him? He must have a back up plan, or at least began conceiving of one when Val started poking around. Freddy's plan was to frame Joey, Blue Eyes went along with it, there was nothing else to be done, he didn't know Billyclub had arranged for witnesses to "spot" Joey. He must have some plan for Constantine. What? Maybe doesn't expect Val to react immediately, or to be content with carving out his own piece of the newly freed territory now that the Families have been weakened. Possible. Almost definitely doesn't expect Val to personally oppose him, doesn't know about Ace's involvement in the Astra Pagliuca hit. Expects Val to not give a damn about what happens to the famiilies.

How does Blue Eyes have Astra Pagliuca? Pulled the "if you ever want to see your brother alive again come here", now has both Pagliuca children as insurance. Astra is sending constant video feed of Darin via her cell phone to Nicky, in order to verify that he's alive.

What can Val do? Catch-22 -- can go to Caponigro Building to save Commission, or can go to Staten Island to rescue Darin and Astra, thus leave Blue Eyes without any hostages. BUT. Possibility by the time he arrives in Staten Island Darin and Astra will already be dead (will Blue Eyes kill them, or just let them go? Probably kill them - leaving them alive will raise too many questions) and Blue Eyes will be don, Commission will be dead. If he goes to Caponigro Building Blue Eyes will realize something's gone wrong, kill Darin and Astra. Has to get to Darin and Astra before the Commission decides, but possiblity of taking too long. Gets Carmine to delay the Commission. How? Giovanni won't listen to Carmine, and no one else in the Constantine Family has the political pull to delay the Commission. Carmine can't delay Commission meeting; first order of business will be declaring an acting boss for the immediate time being. Nicky has to propose Blue Eyes, otherwise Darin or Astra will be killed. Chances are rest of the Commission will go along with him. Why? Carmine Gallo and Ralph Pastelli in Blue Eyes' pocket, or dead? Big Sammy was. Why whacked? Because was with Freddy. CG dead at home, Pastelli at Commission for Patriso, refuses to become acting boss, urges Blue Eyes. Commission not happy, but most major Freddy supporters dead. Blue Eyes has been icing them. The moment Blue Eyes is declared acting boss the Commission is dead. Val has to get to Darin and Astra before Commission assembles fully. Period.

What can Mac and Stella do? Go along with Val to arrest Blue Eyes for kidnapping. No - Val goes to Commission, delays declaration of Patriso acting boss by requesting Constantine join the roster of Families as a full member. Mac and Stella go to Staten Island house to arrest Blue Eyes for kidnapping, conspiracy, and murder in the first degree. What about shooters at Caponigro Building? Commission is dithering about Constantine request. Astra and Darin call, put on speakerphone, detail Blue Eyes' attempt to blackmail the Commission, and Commission soldiers - what Family? Various families - rout out shooters. Nicky asks for Commission to reconvene in one week's time to declare a new Patriso boss and discuss Constantine's entrance.

Possibly the best description ever.

Pagliuca knows Blue Eyes has Darin, knows Fat Freddy tried to kill Astra. Knows Constantine's not behind it because of Ace's involvement, Blue Eyes' demands, and because Constantine's not stupid.

I'm really intrigued by this, because it shows your thought process... like, you write down a possible idea, and then say, wait, no, let's do this instead. And god, the detail here! So many names, so many things going on, politics and killings and who's in jail and who's not, and ye gads.

[identity profile] bedlamsbard.livejournal.com 2007-03-17 06:44 am (UTC)(link)
Well, since I already posted the Bloody Sunday outline, you can see that I tried to go through the same process with that, but it clearly didn't work. If I remember correctly, it was pretty much stream of consciousness, trying to work out the logic of the thing and why it would or wouldn't work. The problem is I do class notes like this too. *facepalm*

Here, I'll edit in the list of characters and Mob background.

[identity profile] limmenel.livejournal.com 2007-03-17 06:56 am (UTC)(link)
It's just interesting to watch your thought process carry through this entire scene, as you work out the details, especially because I know what the end result was, so I read you talking about why Blue Eyes does this or that, and it's really facinating. I wasn't able to do that with the Bloody Sunday outline.

My class notes are like this, too, but more doodle-filled and less wordy :D
ext_2135: narnia: home sweet home (soraki) (Default)

[identity profile] bedlamsbard.livejournal.com 2007-03-17 07:07 am (UTC)(link)
Hell, I wasn't able to do that with the Bloody Sunday outline, because it changed so much from the outline to the product. To this day, I have no idea what happens in the middle besides "Stella and Flack get hurt, Lindsay and Hawkes get investigated by IAB, and Mac starts working with Val as he gets pushed ever closer to the edge."

I have class notes that consist of "YOU IDIOTS. Sometimes war IS the societal good," and variations on that theme.

[identity profile] limmenel.livejournal.com 2007-03-17 07:11 am (UTC)(link)
Well, compared to the Omerta outline, that middle is pretty poorly described :D. But otherwise, it's better than anything I can pull out for any of the fics I write.

I have notes that say "at this point in the lecture, i will fall asleep, because the prof is boring", followed, of course, by a smudge of ink from my arm, which I'm resting my head on as I nap.

(ps, the fic i'm working on right now is probably gonna end up being that danny/flack gen that i promised you for your belated birthday, only it's forming an actual PLOT so i have no idea)
ext_2135: narnia: home sweet home (soraki) (Default)

[identity profile] bedlamsbard.livejournal.com 2007-03-17 07:27 am (UTC)(link)
But see, I don't outline anymore. It doesn't work like that with me. Right now, at least, it's not the story so much as the writing itself. I'm just going with the flow and seeing where it takes me.

*snort*

[identity profile] limmenel.livejournal.com 2007-03-17 07:32 am (UTC)(link)
I'm writing a fic right now (with PLOT and STUFF and Danny gets arrested and I get to enjoy torturing him for a couple thousand words), and the closest I have to an outline is a couple of IMs that I've exchanged with my friend, asking random questions like "Should Danny have sex with this person?" and "Does so-and-so speak Italian?". I'm very go-with-the-flow, and hope that I don't end up with giant plot holes.

A note re: that gen fic? I promise people fics all the time. I promised buffy_lily a fic for her birthday way back in September. She didn't get it until January. So you'll get it, eventually. :D
ext_2135: narnia: home sweet home (soraki) (Default)

[identity profile] bedlamsbard.livejournal.com 2007-03-17 07:36 am (UTC)(link)
I just realized that my shoving the Beauty and the Beast story at you could probably be considered outlining. Oh well! I still don't know what happens in the middle.

The part that's basically me arguing with myself? I now do that out loud. I've advanced.

[identity profile] limmenel.livejournal.com 2007-03-17 07:39 am (UTC)(link)
You totally know what happens in the middle, just not in details! I thought I poked you about this! Also, yes, I think that does qualify as outlining.

And going from Written to Oral methods of story-telling? That's not exactly "advancing" :D.
ext_2135: narnia: home sweet home (soraki) (Default)

[identity profile] bedlamsbard.livejournal.com 2007-03-17 07:45 am (UTC)(link)
Now I've gone on to the writing part. *sigh*

Don't use your petty logic on me!

I'm trying to post my Star Wars story and I can't even type straight anymore, so I think sleep would probably be a good thing now...

[identity profile] limmenel.livejournal.com 2007-03-17 07:47 am (UTC)(link)
Petty? I assure you, my logic is of the highest Earth quality.

Yeah, I'm gonna do the sleep thing, too, because 4 AM is definitely past my bedtime.

[identity profile] limmenel.livejournal.com 2007-03-17 06:59 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, looking at the edited-in list of characters?

My jaw is GAPING.

HOW ON EARTH did you keep track of so many characters?! Holy crap!!!
ext_2135: narnia: home sweet home (soraki) (Default)

[identity profile] bedlamsbard.livejournal.com 2007-03-17 07:02 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, to be honest? This is how I keep track of them. It's a slightly more organized form for my original fic (thank god for KeyNote is all I can say), but right now, I seriously don't remember who shows up in the story, who's just referenced, who's dead and from, like, the founding of the Mafia...I mean, most of these are Mafia, but the vic and the suspects are in there too, as well as my very favorite EMTs.

[identity profile] limmenel.livejournal.com 2007-03-17 07:05 am (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't know who goes where, and why... I'd need a stack of note-cards filled with characters, taped around on a giant blank wall, in order to keep track of them all.

Hee, Zeke the EMT makes me happy.
ext_2135: narnia: home sweet home (soraki) (Default)

[identity profile] bedlamsbard.livejournal.com 2007-03-17 07:26 am (UTC)(link)
KeyNote, when it comes to keeping notes, is my baby. It's shareware that keeps me alive -- you can do trees and whatnots in it, so I have my originals sorted by (and this is just one tiny section):

[Others: Corinth]
-Characters: CHS Band
--CHS Band: by concert instrument
--CHS Band: by marching instrument

Seriously, when I want to find stuff? I damn well be able to find information. I should actually have more notes on here than I do; some of them are in various wordfiles and need to be backed up on KeyNote so I can find them. (BTW: my original stuff all takes place in the same universe, so I really do need to keep track of my stuff really well.)

Zeke and Devin are fun.

[identity profile] limmenel.livejournal.com 2007-03-17 07:29 am (UTC)(link)
There's a program that I would KILL to have, but it's software for Apple only... scrivener (http://www.literatureandlatte.com/scrivener.html) sounds a lot like KeyNote, but ooh, so pretty!

Zeke and Aiden's interactions make me giggle.
ext_2135: narnia: home sweet home (soraki) (Default)

[identity profile] bedlamsbard.livejournal.com 2007-03-17 07:34 am (UTC)(link)
KeyNote's for Windows. I definitely don't use a Mac. (hee) I couldn't live without it, seriously, at least for that 'verse.

[identity profile] limmenel.livejournal.com 2007-03-17 07:38 am (UTC)(link)
I wish I used a Mac (I'd name him Taylor, and people would ask why, and I'd say "Taylor. Mac Taylor." and giggle uncontrollably like the dork that I am). They're so sleek and shiny.

I'll look into downloading it. I used Microsoft OneNote for a while, but hated it.
ext_2135: narnia: home sweet home (soraki) (Default)

[identity profile] bedlamsbard.livejournal.com 2007-03-17 07:41 am (UTC)(link)
I recommend it a lot. Looking through various folders...

Oh, hey, I found the Commission family mottos. I'd forgotten about those. And various Bardverse Messer family notes.

[identity profile] limmenel.livejournal.com 2007-03-17 07:45 am (UTC)(link)
I don't have many stories that I'd use it for, though, because most of my stuff is shorter, 5k words or so. But if this one gets much bigger and more complicated, I may need it.

Bardverse Messer family notes? Like, Ned and The Brothers?
ext_2135: narnia: home sweet home (soraki) (Default)

[identity profile] bedlamsbard.livejournal.com 2007-03-17 07:52 am (UTC)(link)
Basically boils down to the rough ages of the brothers and then Angela and Val's parentage:

Al Sr. Constantine m. Caprice Brasi
Al Jr. Constantine m. Carmela Rocchegiani
Luciano (Lucky) Constantine m. Josephina Pagliuca
who produced Angela Constantine (m. Edward Messer) and Valentine Constantine.

[identity profile] limmenel.livejournal.com 2007-03-17 05:48 pm (UTC)(link)
You mentioned at one point that Carmine was the best man at Val's wedding... who did Val marry, out of curiosity?
ext_2135: narnia: home sweet home (soraki) (Default)

[identity profile] bedlamsbard.livejournal.com 2007-03-18 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
Some Mafia chick that he later divorced. I don't know if she has a name or not. *checks notes* Oh, wait, apparently not a Mafia chick, since her name's French. Alanna Berrier. I think I actually planned for him to have two ex-wives, so the she would be the Mafia chick -- Jersey or Philly Mob, I think, not Commission. She's not in my Bloody Sunday characters file (which is much better organized than the Omerta file. *rolls eyes*), and so doesn't have a name.

Yeah, Val fails with women.

[identity profile] limmenel.livejournal.com 2007-03-18 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
Is there something between Val and Carmine, then? Because, maybe I just go through the world wish slash-coloured glasses, but holy crap, I thought there was something between them, and I'm not talking about Carmine just being his underboss (*cough*)

Yeah, Val fails with women.

The one thing Danny got from his uncle, apparently?
ext_2135: narnia: home sweet home (soraki) (Default)

[identity profile] bedlamsbard.livejournal.com 2007-03-18 04:48 am (UTC)(link)
...yes. Maybe. It's open to interpretation. I seriously don't remember, but I'm pretty sure it's supposed to go anyway you want it to.

You look at the world through slash-colored glasses, I slash guys I know.

Danny got plenty of things from his uncle, such as a really twisted sense of justice and the Constantine family as an inheritance.

*just watched Friday Night Lights* So Texas football really is like that, right? It's not an exaggeration at all?

[identity profile] limmenel.livejournal.com 2007-03-18 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
I totally ship Val/Carmine. Cause seriously? That's hot (a la Paris Hilton, seriously).

I want to be in Danny's place. Man, getting the Constantine family as an inheritance? That'd be all kinds of awesome.

And yes. OMG yes. Texas football is TOTALLY EXACTLY COMPLETELY like that. Pure truth.
ext_2135: narnia: home sweet home (soraki) (Default)

[identity profile] bedlamsbard.livejournal.com 2007-03-18 06:51 am (UTC)(link)
*blinkblink* Blond, shallow, and rich?

But then you'd have to deal with the politics and the warfare and getting married for the good of the order! I mean, the only fun part is the money.

That is hardcore. (Of course, I spent the entire movie going, "That is a huge fucking marching band. That is a lot of sousaphones. Those are fancy drummers, and there're a lot of them. Oh my God, I know that pep band song, that's the Hey Song! Hey, we've played that one too, what is it, hey, it's Go Big Blue!" and also, "ooh, cute boys. Get beat up some more because blood can be really hot," so who knows where I'm coming from?)

[identity profile] limmenel.livejournal.com 2007-03-18 07:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, wasn't comparing Val and Carmine to Paris, just stealing her catchphrase :D.

Hey, I am all about the politics and the warfare. And the getting married thing probably wouldn't be such a huge bother, if he was rich and good looking :D.

Our half-time shows are fantastic at high school football games... they tend to take 45 mins to an hour, and involve the entire band and BOTH of our cheerleaders (we have a regular group, and a really expensive-to-join group ($3000/girl, seriously) that's more hardcore dancing), and it's kinda cool to watch :D
ext_2135: narnia: home sweet home (soraki) (Default)

[identity profile] bedlamsbard.livejournal.com 2007-03-19 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
See, I know nothing about modern culture, so.

And also LIABLE TO GO TO JAIL at any given moment, plus taps by the FBI, plus a girlfriend.

My band doesn't do formation marching, so our halftime shows are performed from the stand. And...those are really expensive cheerleaders, wow. (One of this year's three male cheerleaders is also a varsity football player, which is kind of interesting.)

[identity profile] limmenel.livejournal.com 2007-03-19 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, but, but... potential AWESOMENESS totally outweighs the potential badness. And psh to the FBI, let them have their silly phone taps.

Texas is silly when it comes to things like football games and halftime shows. Seriously, just plain SILLY.
ext_2135: narnia: home sweet home (soraki) (Default)

[identity profile] bedlamsbard.livejournal.com 2007-03-19 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
Well, the girlfriend's a given. So're the FBI taps, and the always having to look over your shoulder for shooters, and worrying if your husband's going to flip on the mob or not, and if you're going to be used to entrap him into a confession...

I've heard the entire south is like that. Kind of interesting, at least from the northwesterner's prospective of "oh, wow, why?"

[identity profile] limmenel.livejournal.com 2007-03-19 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
Psh, I wanna be a Mafia daughter, like Astra. Kickass, doing what I want... and a hot guy like Ace wouldn't be a bad thing. Yeah, there's a downside to every life, though, at least that one would be interesting!

I lived in Texas for fourteen years, and I still do the "Oh, WHY?!" thing pretty regularly...
ext_2135: narnia: home sweet home (soraki) (Default)

[identity profile] bedlamsbard.livejournal.com 2007-03-19 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, but remember, not only is Astra being pressured to get married, she also has to put up with assassins, getting kidnapped and threatened at gunpoint, and generally being a walking target. On the other hand, Astra is fun! And one of my hardest characters to write, at least back when I was writing her. She might be easier now.

[identity profile] limmenel.livejournal.com 2007-03-19 05:28 am (UTC)(link)
Honestly, stuff like that would be so much more interesting than the boring life I live... I would LOVE to have something like that happening, never knowing what's going to happen next. And Astra keeps her head in a tight situation (not that I would, because I haven't a clue what I'd do, but... :D)
ext_2135: narnia: home sweet home (soraki) (Default)

[identity profile] bedlamsbard.livejournal.com 2007-03-19 05:39 am (UTC)(link)
You know, that was something else I meant to cover in...oh, crap, what was it supposed to be called? *checks notes* Okay, like half my stories, it was supposed to be called Dangerous Heroes. (The Luciano Constantine story) You know, Astra finding out she's Stella's sister and Nick Bonasera's daughter -- not Nicodemo Pagliuca's daughter. Unfortunately, I had no accompanying plot.

[identity profile] limmenel.livejournal.com 2007-03-19 06:04 am (UTC)(link)
Woe for us, your readers. I'd have liked to see that.

Poor Stella, seriously, finding out that her father was in jail and her sister is a Mafia princess, that's two huge shocks, in a very short period of time.

What would Astra have thought about that? Would it have affected her as badly as it did Stella?
ext_2135: narnia: home sweet home (soraki) (Default)

Yes, but it has no plot. Plot is good!

Well, then she promptly found out her father wasn't in jail and was now employed by Danny's Mafia uncle -- hey, she found out she had a father in the first place, that's a plus.

Astra, from my impression of her, is a very practical woman. She wouldn't particularly care -- unlike Stella, she has a family. Pagliuca's her family, not some stranger she's never met. (I'll have you know I pulled the Omerta wordfile on my comp just to try and remember what happened.)

Would Astra have been interested in reconnecting with Stella, though? And, randomly, would she see Stella as vaguely Constantine, because of Danny (didn't you say at one point that the Mafia considers the Crime Lab to be Constantine because Danny's the heir or whatever)?

I'm totally fascinated by Astra. :D

...maybe? I don't really know. I'm actually thinking no, because Stella's a cop and Pagliuca tends to see things as very black and white -- less so than most of the Commission, but more so than Constantine. And again, she has a family, she has a sibling. All she's got in connection with Stella is a set of genes.

That was Patriso. They're just nuts.

Man, poor Stella, she has a father she doesn't want, a sister that doesn't want her, and she's finding out that the life she thought she had is kinda a lie.

Well, she wants her father, she just doesn't know what to do with him. And this Stella's stable enough to be content with what she's got -- her life isn't a lie, she's still a cop, because that's what she's made herself. There's no Frankie in this 'verse.
