Oh, I know the feeling. Why study when you can read fic? I mean, no comparison at all.
It's partly the fic, partly the CSI:NY universe as a whole. I'm really dissatisfied with what the writers have chosen to do with the past two seasons, and losing connection with the source material isn't really a good way to stay invested in a fic 'verse.
