So, NaNo starts in approximately three hours and I am not excited at all. Part of this may come from the fact that I already spend every free hour of the day working on a novel, which I swear is practically a full-time job, or at least another class. Except with porn and awesomeness, although sometimes things overlap beween my work-study job, my classes, and the novel. Sadly, it is usually the rape. Sometimes the lesbians. Usually the rape. *winces*

Also, the NaNovel in theory has some of the same elements of the original: soldier girl, non-soldier girl, women in the military being awesome, except in New Orleans, and also, at the moment, no men. (Which actually doesn't hold true for the original; there are men all over the place in the original.)

I could write part two of Dust. Or a short set in the Original-'verse -- which may actually be the best idea, because I really don't function well having two different 'verses in my head. 's why regular fic production slipped when [personal profile] aella_irene and I started writing the Junior Pevensie 'verse.

(Also options: colonial fantasy, thieves in faux-Florence, not-incest.)

Maybe I won't start at midnight with the suitemates; maybe I'll sleep on it and start in the morning.

My NaNovel plot idea has suddenly changed. Huh. Now it is -- vaguely WWII-ish, in a city that is not New Orleans except in that it, well, is, and stars a young woman named Nedda and a houseful of recuperating female soldiers.

And magic. Somehow. I'm not sure how. I don't really have a plot yet.

But there are awesome female characters, and female friendship, and kickass women, and girlkissing.

Which is funny, because my previous plan was for vaguely incestuous het.

Right, about an hour after I posted that I never wanted to think about Peta again, I finished writing the scene I stopped in the middle of. And it's kind of interesting. (Also, I think I may have lied about the emotional plot being "home.")

in which Caspian is confused, Susan is frazzled, Peta is furious, Edmund is more like himself, and Lucy has more of a speaking part than ever before )

So what do you all get out of that? *curious*

And now that I never want to see Peta again (kindly ignore the fact that there is at least another 100K of Story left, and also that I stopped in the middle of an absolutely furious argument about whether or not this is Aslan's will), this means that I can go back to Dust. WHOO.

...that is not, perhaps, the proper attitude. BUT OH WELL.

And how much of what I've written in the past twenty-four hours was porn and/or violence? All of it. Although I actually really like the last Peta/Caspian scene I wrote; I feel it has heart. (Also, I wasn't accidentally typing "Peter" when I meant "Peta" and "his" when I meant "her." That helps.) (This also means that Water has officially surpassed my last longest Narnia fic -- "In Constellated Wars" topped out at about 38K.)

*grin* Now I'm telling myself that this is no excuse to take another couple days off and put out Dust 6, mostly because I'm debating putting another chapter in between Dust 5 and the Cair Paravel plot. I can't go action-action-action all the time. (On the other hand, nor can I write a Lucy or Jill POV that takes place at the same time as Dust 5, because this isn't that type of story, and I really don't want to go talkyface again. I just have to figure out a good way to work in exposition without going all boardroom the way Dust 3 was, because there are certain relevant plotpoints I need to drop soonish, and at least one character we have to meet. And I suppose y'all would like to know about the Red Company and Alleyne Seaworth, the man who has never seen the sea. Osumare Seaworth would be so ashamed.)

I think someone turned my subtext generator back on, because Peta/Susan oh my god. Approximately one sentence after Caspian talking about he and Peta having sex up against walls.

Of course, earlier there is subtext along the lines of, "and then they kiss ON THE MOUTH," but whatever, that is totally different.

And then there is Edmund.
Edmund nods, the sleep clearing from his eyes. His gaze sharpens, more alert now, and he says, “Don’t worry about Lu; I’ll get her. She likes to sleep in the nude, and I don’t want to have to deal with you having seen two of my sisters in the altogether.”

“What?” Caspian says, faintly astonished.

Edmund shakes his head. “Just don’t ask. Really, it’s probably better not to know,” he says, then shuts the door in Caspian’s face.

I feel that y'all should know I just typed my twenty-five thousandth word.

Amusingly enough, it is "last."

...okay, Be Like Water is supposed to be going to a Peta/Caspian place, not a Peta/Edmund place. Or Peta/Caspian/Edmund. WHAT IS WITH THE CASUAL KISSING, PETA? I mean, you could at least extend it to Susan, here. (You guys have no idea how much subtext I lost because Susan treats Peta differently than Peter. I only realized it when I bumped up against a scene where I'd have Susan kiss Peter on the cheek but not Peta, and my fingers kind of stumbled over the keyboard. [livejournal.com profile] lassiterfics, I think you may have reset my default setting to "Subtext! Subtext everywhere! Pevencest! Subtext!")

I fear that Susan is not going to be down for the casual kissing in public, though, alas. Although it's not really public; the only other person in the hallway is Caspian, and he and Peta were just making out. Obviously her answer to Edmund walking in is to plant one on him.

Caspian? Very confused, as per usual. These are mixed signals he doesn't understand!

Once more, I fail at...I don't know. Went to Take Back the Night tonight, except I didn't know anybody and everyone else was there in groups, so...not the greatest time ever. But at least I went.

and this is why Glozelle is awesome )

Peta and Caspian are freaking awesome, and I love them.

Also, Glozelle? Still awesome.
bedlamsbard: natasha romanoff from the black widow prelude comic (Default)
Glozelle is awesome, and Caspian kind of hero-worshipped him before the whole "I am going to shoot you full of crossbow bolts" thing. That pretty much put a damper on that relationship.

So I am struck by the realization that chapters in Dust would be longer if I actually added in the sex, rather than the subtext. Then I remembered that I'm writing a Tirian POV, so it wouldn't actually help this chapter so much. *sigh*

Be Like Water tease of the day )

And yes, before anyone says anything, I voted. I actually voted last week; my entire county is mail-in, and my mother sent my ballot here. I am relatively sure it's not going to get nailed for coming with a New Orleans postmark, because they said it was fine when my dad went in to get his absentee ballot.

I have a nice 15K on "Be Like Water", so today is for homework and Dust. Let us see how much of my characterization I remember (considering the fact that Water told me kindly that in the Petaverse, things are Very Different), and then maybe y'all can judge who's more confused, Caspian or Tirian. Caspian's getting laid more, though. *grin*
bedlamsbard: natasha romanoff from the black widow prelude comic (there is nothing left (elec3nity))
Aw, Peta and Caspian just had their first kiss. How completely adorable. It would probably be more so if they weren't both bloody and not-so-fresh from the battlefield and Peta hadn't just finished bitching out someone for being an idiot and starting the war early.
bedlamsbard: natasha romanoff from the black widow prelude comic (Default)
Yes, I am probably doing one of these every day, because they are awesome.

yeah, that's one argument Caspian won't be using again. )

Also, Peta and Caspian cannot possibly be this cute when they aren't even sleeping together yet.

You know what this means? This means that tomorrow I can work on Dust.
bedlamsbard: natasha romanoff from the black widow prelude comic (Default)
Huh. Petaverse Caspian isn't as blatantly paranoid and/or aggressive as canon Caspian, but I'm not sure if that's holdover from writing Tirian (I basically switched from writing Tirian to writing Caspian in the course of two minutes and it messes with my head), the fact that I've never written Caspian at this early point in PC before, or the fact that Caspian is really truly confounded at being confronted with a girl.

Here, have a taste of Be Like Water )
bedlamsbard: natasha romanoff from the black widow prelude comic (the die hard way (likefluffy))
The good news about no longer having a roommate: all NaNo write-ins can now be in my room. Rock on!

The good news about NaNo: Be Like Water: 4101 words in.

One notes how incredibly hard it is to switch one's mind from writing Tirian POV to writing Caspian POV. Also how hard it is to write from movie canon when one does not actually have the movie around to refer to.

The amusing news: One of my fellow Tulane WriMos declaring that she couldn't watch PC because she heard they put Susan in a more prominent role, and she hates, hates Susan and wants to bash her head in. Cue my wide eyes and, "BUT I LIKE SUSAN." "She is exactly the type of person I hate!"

Huh. I'll upload a Susan icon tomorrow.
