Nov. 6th, 2008 06:49 pm...okay, Be Like Water is supposed to be going to a Peta/Caspian place, not a Peta/Edmund place. Or Peta/Caspian/Edmund. WHAT IS WITH THE CASUAL KISSING, PETA? I mean, you could at least extend it to Susan, here. (You guys have no idea how much subtext I lost because Susan treats Peta differently than Peter. I only realized it when I bumped up against a scene where I'd have Susan kiss Peter on the cheek but not Peta, and my fingers kind of stumbled over the keyboard.
lassiterfics, I think you may have reset my default setting to "Subtext! Subtext everywhere! Pevencest! Subtext!")
I fear that Susan is not going to be down for the casual kissing in public, though, alas. Although it's not really public; the only other person in the hallway is Caspian, and he and Peta were just making out. Obviously her answer to Edmund walking in is to plant one on him.
Caspian? Very confused, as per usual. These are mixed signals he doesn't understand!
He falls asleep, or thinks he does, because the next thing he knows is Trumpkin shaking him awake. Caspian’s hand closes on his sword-hilt, the blade unsheathed across his lap, before he recognizes the dwarf, and he croaks, “Peta –”
From beside Trumpkin Queen Susan is all pale skin, dark hair, and big eyes; for some reason, in the pale light of early dawn, she looks surprisingly like her sister. “She’s alive,” she says, cradling Peta against her shoulder. “She’s lost a lot of blood. We have to get her back to Lucy now.”
Caspian can’t see what Lucy will be able to do for Peta, but getting her back to the How is a better option that leaving her here to die. He gets up slowly, every muscle in his body aching, and sheathes his sword before reaching for Peta.
Queen Susan gives him an alarmed look, but relinquishes her hold on her sister and lets Caspian lift her up in his arms, Peta’s head lolling slackly against his shoulder. It’s only Susan, Trumpkin, and two horses in the wood; Susan says, absently, “Thank Aslan, I was afraid –” and stops abruptly as she leans down to pick up Peta’s fallen sword, curling her long fingers around the hilt awkwardly.

pretty much convinced me of it.
idk why. but seriously, just think about it. ohmygod. actually, i lied. peta/susan/lucy would be the hottest pairing ever. in fact, my brain exploded from the hottness, just thinking about it.
and... i totally just lost my train of thought. the snippet is lovely by the way. OH, SUSAN. *clutches* even with out the subtext, i'm really enjoying peta's and susan's relationship, which is saying alot because she's unconscious in this scene. and peta's caspain is so competant, i really like him.

Date: 2008-11-07 05:50 pm (UTC)The Peta/Susan relationship is kind of fascinating here, and I haven't quite figured out exactly why, because it's so different than the Peter/Susan relationship. It's much more CO/2IC than Warsverse Peter and Susan, where it tends to be Peter and Edmund in the CO/2IC positions. Here, I think, Edmund and Susan split it.
Caspian has to be competent; he's trying to impress a girl. *grin*

Date: 2008-11-07 04:27 am (UTC)Actually, one of these days I want a Caspian/Peta/Edmund/Lucy/Susan.
Maybe all at once, maybe not.
*sigh*
I remember a time (before Dune and Narnia) when 'cest and slash were BIG no-nos in my book.
WHERE HAS MY INNOCENCE GONE????

Date: 2008-11-07 05:53 pm (UTC)I will admit that there, uh, may be Peta/Peter/Warsverse!Edmund.

Date: 2008-11-08 06:50 am (UTC)My OTPs were James/Sirius (THIS is where my love of doomed pairings came from, I think), Draco/Hermione (this was the first; it later changed), and Harry/Draco.

Date: 2008-11-07 11:54 am (UTC)but i totally feel you on different character motivations in different arcs thing! i've been working on the calormen fic, and writing goldenage!susan through goldenage!edmund is weird. it's not the susan i usually write. edmund is critical and calculating, and develops his own agenda, and susan is... less womanly and more girlish? i also have a feeling bookverse!susan is influencing me somehow.

Date: 2008-11-07 06:52 pm (UTC)oh, and thing. i was looking at crosstree/grail again today and since the beginning is edmund-heavy, maybe should we move the feast scene (one i wrote that starts with edmund observing morgana) to be part of the banquet in the middle scene?
what are your thoughts on crosstree grail's general state actually.

Date: 2008-11-07 07:59 pm (UTC)I don't know, I think we need that particular observation fairly early, but I could be wrong.
It is in progress! *twitches* I'll try and get it to you tonight. I rewrote the Peter POV after the hunt to make it smoother and, uh, added about 300 words, but I'll get to the rest later.

Date: 2008-11-07 09:32 pm (UTC)*haunted expression* i am writing peta/caspian. it's at the forefront of my mind. shortly followed by peter/susan in dust.

Date: 2008-11-07 09:57 pm (UTC)and i don't know what about edmund's morgana-observation-part we need early on that we can't move it to the banquet scene. also i feel that by that part, we've had enough contemplation and introduction and can just go straight in for more action. it would also keep the beginning from being so edmund-heavy. i expect this fic to not go over 20 pages, and 20 pages may even be a wee bit much.

Date: 2008-11-07 10:03 pm (UTC)i've got arthur pov now, but i'm not really sure where it's going. i may just stop in the middle of the scene and send it over. (hi. i am the worst co-writer ever. i stop and i stare and i twitch and i push it away from me in a flurry of pages! virtual pages, that is.)
