And now that I never want to see Peta again (kindly ignore the fact that there is at least another 100K of Story left, and also that I stopped in the middle of an absolutely furious argument about whether or not this is Aslan's will), this means that I can go back to Dust. WHOO.
...that is not, perhaps, the proper attitude. BUT OH WELL.

Date: 2008-11-27 09:07 am (UTC):looks at own: yes, I know we have the archenland feast (which I've actually figured out how to at least cover some of the issues in) and finishing off the caspian /peter/susan, but word count hath been achieved!

Date: 2008-11-27 04:47 pm (UTC)Oh, man, I don't even want to think about what else I have in this section alone, let alone parts one and two. Miraz just moved all his troops across the river: there is still supposed to be a three month siege that hasn't begun yet.
Also, I have discovered that I like Peter a hell of a lot better than Peta.

Date: 2008-11-27 07:49 pm (UTC)and what might be your reasons? i get the feeling that Peter is more psycho and a bit less fucked up than Peta even though he's more broken from what you've posted.
....oh fuck. I've just realised I have no idea what kind of personality the archenland King has and I've got to start writing him. Now.

Date: 2008-11-27 08:03 pm (UTC)He's better at playing older sibling than Peta is, that's for sure. He's also less hostile than Peta, I think? From what I can tell, Peta went through a lot of shit during the Golden Age just because she was a woman, politically and otherwise, and that only intensified when she got back to England after LWW. She's a little more impetuous, a little more likely to be reckless and take risks (and even more so now than she was during the tail-end of the Golden Age) and she's very possibly worse at playing politics than Peter is. Which is kind of a scary thought. She's very focused (and this is going to fuck her over in Water, because she manages to set up a situation where Narnia can be overrun and reconquered within a decade and a half) and she sees with blinders a lot of the time (like the bit I just posted? I don't think that Caspian realizes she's insulting him). Her relationship with her siblings is entirely different than Peter's. (And boy, is it going to be interesting to see her interact with the Warsverse Pevensies, because seriously: completely different.) I also have the feeling that she's doing a lot of the things she's doing in Water just because she can -- setting up meets with Miraz even though it's a really horrible idea, sleeping with Caspian, etc. It's not that she's a bad strategist, because she's not, and she doesn't have the utterly disastrous castle raid on her record the way Peter does (and thus she hasn't lost as many troops) but she managed to bring the entire might of Telmar's army down on her head and there are about three other attacks/skirmishes that didn't go exactly as planned.
This all goes to say that they are very different. *sheepish*
Also, I just have an easier time writing male characters than I do female characters. *shrug*
