Dec. 10th, 2006 09:43 pmOh, I so badly want to knit these scarves.
I mean, seriously. Dude. Cool. Dorky, but cool.
On the other hand, I have too much Christmas knitting to do to knit anything for myself, especially now that I've finished my fingerless gloves that I meant to do for football season. *wince* I took a month off for NaNo.
In other news, I really actually do like the prequel trilogy. I mean, yeah, I agree with people when they say Lucas should have made six films instead of three - oh man, do I ever agree, we could have had actual character and plot development - but I really do like them. I mean, when they're bad they're bad, but when they're good?
Oh man, they're good.
And I disagree with the people that compare them to the original trilogy, because you can't compare them. Forget for a moment that they come from different eras. The stories take place in different worlds. The Republic is very different from the Empire. It has to be. The originals are living in a gritty, dark universe where they've been fighting a secret war for a generation now, living on the underside of planets, consorting with smugglers and bounty hunters and whatnot - they're rebels. The prequels are living in a bright, beautiful world - granted, one that's starting to spiral down into darkness, but no one can quite understand that yet. It's bright. It's shiny. It has its troubles, but they aren't any different than the troubles it's been having for thousands of years. Until Palpatine, of course.
And my God, can you imagine the lives of the people that have seen both worlds? Seen their lives crumble, their liberties disappear, their protectors murdered? That's the difference. By the time A New Hope rolled around, the rebels never expected hope in the first place. They weren't fighting for that anymore. When The Phantom Menace took place - or even Attack of the Clones - they didn't need hope, because the world was so bright.
