bedlamsbard: natasha romanoff from the black widow prelude comic (the end starts now (karanna1))
Here's something I bet y'all never saw coming and also, that I don't think I've ever actually admitted.

Until a few years ago, when I was at the fringe of LWW Narnia fandom (reading but not writing), when there was a sudden surge of Peter/Susan post-LB fic where Susan is miserable in England (and one fic where she was pregnant with Peter's kid; look, I was all of fifteen, this was before I developed my exacting taste), I thought that Susan died with the rest of the Pevensies in LB but, because of the whole "my sister is no longer a friend of Narnia" thing, never made it to Narnia/Aslan's Country. That scene in LB where Lucy, Peter, and Edmund are standing in the Garden and see England far off in the distance and wave to their parents? I spent the last fifteen years thinking that they were waving to their parents and Susan. Susan hadn't been forbidden heaven; she was just in a different part of it. And that was okay; she'd made her choice, her siblings could go visit.

Imagine my surprise when I realized that Susan had been left all alone in England. It was quite a shock, let me tell you. (Especially given that the way I found out was fairly badly written fic and not, you know, the actual books.) Look, I've read the books a lot; that very important fact just happened to escape me. That is why I never had the major issue with Lewis's treatment of women that many other people have had. (I mean, LB still rubbed me wrong, but it wasn't because of Susan; it was a fundamental difference of opinion re: religion and the Pevensies and Scrubb&Pole's purpose in Narnia.)

How's that for Great Misunderstandings of Western Canon?
