an inquiry

Question, people who are not Americans or who know things about Britain during WWII: would one have seen gingerbread during the war years or the post-war years? (This is for Jill, who is vaguely fixed in my head as upper-middle class, though I'm sure the definition for that is not the same in WWII England as it is in modern America.)
