Jul. 22nd, 2010 05:58 pmMan, I am starting to think that some of the people writing copy for their used books on Amazon, Borders Marketplace, ABE Books, etc., are doing it SOLELY TO TUG AT YOUR HEARTSTRINGS. So you end up going, "Should I buy this USED - GOOD book or this USED - VERY GOOD book if the USED - GOOD book benefits missing children/the rainforest/[local] library? IF I BUY THE BOOK IN BETTER CONDITION AM I A BAD PERSON?"
I do not particularly care how much a book is creased, but writing, underlining, and highlighting -- OR THE COMBINATION OMG -- inside distresses me. Sometimes I write in my own books -- I do not like doing so, but sometimes it is necessary -- but I don't like it when other people do because I generally think they are WRONG WRONG WRONG. *coughs* Anyway, they're just for the semester, I don't need them in great condition.
I think I am going to end up paying under $300 for my THIRTY-FIVE textbooks this semester! I am really excited; I've ended up shelling out around $500 to the bookstore per semester the past couple years, and I am OVER that shit, especially because a lot of the time I can't sell any books back, and even when I can, I usually get less than $70 back. Aaaand...ten minutes after I originally typed this, I just hit $312. Okay, can I go back and pay less for anything? *ten minutes later* YES. $299.10! OMG, I don't think I've ever paid this little for textbooks! *adds non-textbooks to shopping cart* This is not exactly the best idea I have ever had!
*sad* I wish some sellers would put more information about the condition of the book on their copy; I don't want to buy the book if I'm not sure if it contains highlighting, etc.
Also yes, it turns out that I will pay a buck or so more to buy a book from a seller with the user name "wellgreavedachaeans." Well...wouldn't you?
ETA: OMG WHY AM I PAYING SO MUCH IN SHIPPING *weeps*
