Jul. 24th, 2010 05:27 pmSo, I never wrote up the review of Lev Grossman's The Magicians that I said I was going to because I was trying to make my criticism coherent, and then school started, and then I had to take the book back to the library, and then today someone on my rcircle was praising the book and I had to kick down my kneejerk reaction of, "Oh fuck no."
The one problem with me trying to review the book, even five weeks later, is that thinking about it pisses me the hell off. Which is not exactly conducive to writing critical reviews. (Another reason is that sometime in the past year or so, I got really sensitive to even mentions of books that I've read, especially ones that I consider my favorite books -- someone going off on one of my favorite books or authors can ruin my week, even if I backspace away as quickly as I can. And I don't want to do that to anyone else.)
*sighs*
In other news, the Idiot Ford broke down -- possibly the transmission, but all the mechanics are closed for the weekend, so we won't know for sure until Monday. Gods save me from American cars; the parents are already looking at the used Subaru sitting in the lot at Ellensburg Chevrolet.
The other news is that I bought new jeans today, only to discover that I'd dropped to a 1. I -- am not very happy about this, even though a lot of the women on my mom's side of the family were a 1 at around age 20.
