happy Lundi Gras! also my life is boring
Mar. 7th, 2011 08:13 amSo, yesterday I went to the grocery store because I desperately needed things like BUTTER (although they'v been out of unsalted for a week, wtf) and FLOUR and BACON, and I completely spaced on the fact that there were morning parades on freaking SUPER SUNDAY. Also that Whole Foods is on the parade route.
Let me tell you, I was really confused when I got there and half of uptown was setting up on Magazine Street. Fortunately I got there well before Okeanos, Mid City, and Thoth started rolling, and also Whole Foods was open and doing business, although mostly to people buying organic beer, pizza, and king cake for the parade route. I certainly could have stuck around for the parades -- those three are pretty good, I went freshman year but not last year and I have good memories associated with them -- but I was too surprised and also: groceries. I didn't go out to Bacchus or Endymion, either -- I've never done Endymion before, but I really wasn't in the mood to do anything after spending two hours on the phone with my parents trying to do the FAFSA and the CSS Profile. (Let me tell you, doing that over a rather dubious phone with one parent who's a non-native English speaker and another parent who doesn't like giving out personal information -- "Why do they need to know how much money I make or what our mortgage is?" "SO THE GOVERNMENT CAN GIVE ME MONEY, DADDY." -- is not my idea of a good time, and I feel bad because I think my roommates might have been in the apartment while I was shouting, "SIX-B, mom, six B! BE AS IN BUTTERFLY," into the phone. Fuck you, FAFSA, but give me money! Although I think now my FAFSA and CSS profile don't match up, ergh, and there's stuff going on this year that wasn't going on the year before, so I have no idea what my financial aid for next year will be like. Probably still pretty good; our finances are less pathetic, but still pathetic.) Anyway, that was exhausting, and then I splashed soup all over myself, so I had to change my shirt and do laundry. Then I nearly blew myself up with the power of steam while trying to steam dumplings: lesson learned, always use a lid that actually fits. Fortunately I didn't hurt myself, destroy anything, or set off the fire alarm. Fortunately no one else was in the apartment.
Probably not going to Orpheus and Proteus tonight; not sure if I'll try for Rex tomorrow morning. Mardi Gras parades are...very intense. Very intense.
In conclusion: during Tucks (or maybe Iris) yesterday, I heard a high school marching band playing Justin Bieber. I have no words.
