Apr. 11th, 2011 11:11 amWell, I've registered for next semester's classes. There are two things I can't register for yet -- Greek 1010, because I forgot to fill out the language placement form until last night and I can't register until I get placed, and the honors thesis, which I have to do in the department; I don't know if I get to do that now or wait until I've turned in the prospectus. I shall e-mail the head of the MEMS program to find out!
I'm going to end up with a course overload -- not because I need to fit the classes in all at once, because I don't, but because there are things I want to take. Also because I think it might be kind of weird if I apply for a grad program and the only classes I took senior year are languages, the public service, and the honors thesis. (Seriously, that would be all I needed to fill the minimum number of credits to be a full time student and graduate on time.) I'm not at overload YET, because I can't register for Greek, but I will be when that clears. Need to check with my advisor that I can do that.
I was running degree audit this morning, after I registered, and I think I could actually pick up a third major in history with minimal difficulty. If not a major, at least a minor. I shall e-mail the undergraduate director of the history department to find out! (See, I've taken a lot of history classes for MEMS and Classics, and I have way more credits in Classics than I need for the major because Greek and Latin count too, which means I could put some of those classes towards the history major, and have I mentioned that I have filled all my major requirements except for the capstone/honors thesis? I literally only need two more classes to graduate, the capstone and my public service. So I might as well pick up the third major, since otherwise I'm just shelling out a fuckton of tuition to graduate with Latin honors and get another year of language study...)
I also really want to take Chaucer; I'm reasonably certain that if I just keep taking an English class each semester I can pick up an English minor. (I only need five classes for the major; I have six right now, but four of them are going towards the MEMS major and only one can count for both. So three classes down, and if I take one more each coming semester...) And I like English classes. *shrug*
*stares at history webpage* I spend a lot of time wondering how often they update this site. I have a feeling it's not often, as a lot of time what they say on one page contradicts what they say on another. Do I contact the chair, the director of undergraduate studies, or the associate chair?
Oh! Perhaps I should list the classes I registered for:
CLAS 3020: High Roman Empire
ENLS 4450: Chaucer (Honors)
HISA 6970: Later Medieval Spain (seminar)
LATN 2010: Intro to Literature
HISU 6932: New Orleans Hidden History (seminar)
w/ HISU 6891: 20 hours of service learning (public service)
That's only sixteen hours, but Greek will be four and the honors thesis will be another three, which puts me at way over the maximum (19 hours), but...well. *shrug* I'll see what my advisor says.
