I have finally gotten the thrifting bug. Also the shopping bug, after twenty years of absolutely not giving a damn about shopping whatsoever unless I happened to be shopping for books. (My grandmother, the American one, once said that I was the only girl/woman she knew who had no interest in shopping for clothes; I just wanted to go onto the bookstore. It was unnatural.) Only now I have started to get interested in shopping, especially for kitchen things and clothes. For the kitchen things I blame actually getting my own kitchen + getting really interested in cooking, so it's practical. I am haunting my local Goodwill hoping an ebilskiver pan will show up, because I want to try making ebilskivers (food of my ancestors!), and while I am now mostly set for pots and pans (including a really interesting stainless steel pot I picked up today), I'm on the lookout for things like plates and flatware and, of course, various baking implements.

Clothes, well, I'm mostly blaming on Academichic. I never had much of an eye for clothes before; my standard uniform is jeans and a plain T-shirt, but now I'm looking for tops and skirts and so on, and it's fun. And cheap! And somewhat frustrating, because I'm odd sizes. (Odd small sizes, too. I live in fear of someday fitting into a 0, because on that day I shall be convinced I am wasting away.) Anyway, the problem with shopping in retailers like Macy's or Fred Meyer's or so on for clothes is that my tastes don't often line up with whatever's currently in fashion, which is less than helpful. I somehow seem to keep buying skirts; I shall have to wear more skirts at school this year!

Sadly, no Goodwills within walking distance of campus (as far as I know), although there are a couple of nearby consignment shops. But if I do my shopping while I'm at home, my mother buys some of it. *grin*

(Not that I've stopped shopping for books, mind; last weekend I picked up two Sharpe books (one of which has Sean Bean's Sharpe on the cover) and The Gangs of New York, which is fascinating, if one likes slightly sensational reportings of criminal goings-on. Which I presume y'all do.)
