So today Chicago and Texas and I went to an outlet mall about an hour outside of New Orleans (Tanger Outlet Mall in Gonzales, I think? *hands*), which was lovely, I love outlet malls, although it lacked a bookstore. I was on a hunt for shoes, though I would have been fine leaving without buying anything, and I came to a certain realization. Perhaps several realizations.

1: My feet are kind of weird. I have a narrow heel, what may be a wide toe, and a high arch. (Also, my feet are about a quarter of a size to a half-size differently sized.)
2: I have the most common size (7 to 7.5 US), so at an outlet mall, it was virtually impossible to find shoes in my size. (There was this nice pair of green suede slouchy boots where they only had three pairs, all 7s, and I tried on every single pair, and none of them fit quite right. And I was so sad, because they were deeply discounted. If there had been one 7.5, I would have bought them.)
3: I'm not sure I own a single pair of shoes that (a) fits perfectly or (b) doesn't hurt my feet somehow. Even my sneakers. (My riding boots, maybe. I love those things, and I think they're wide enough in the toe that they don't hurt.)

I spent a long time thinking my feet were a completely different size than they actually are, so that doesn't help either -- I used to think I was an 8 to an 8.5; I am not an 8. (My mother still thinks I'm an 8.) I'm kind of frustrated because I have this pair of boots I was wearing all the time back home, but I can't wear them here, because they're actually half a size (maybe a full size?) too big; at home it was cold enough that I was wearing two pairs of socks, so I didn't realize they were actually too big until I was trying to wear them in New Orleans. *sigh* I guess I might send them back home, since I can't even wear them here. Maybe I will ask my mother to send my other boots from home here, to see if I can wear them. (I need some other stuff too, it's not just, like, send me boots! Except it's going to be me going, "Okay, mom, check to see if the DVDs are in the case. If they're not, you're going to have to take them out of the DVD folder and put them back in the cases, *then* send them to me...")

Anyway. I'm weirded out by the revelation that most if not all of my shoes hurt me somehow somewhere after some amount of time. Because they're either too tight in the toe, or they rub my heels raw, or they don't stay on my feet, or they're too short in the toe, or they're too big, or the straps are somewhere weird...

*hands* So I bought shoes today, because flats! That stay on my feet! even though they're just that slightest bit tight at the toe (width-wise), but I'm hoping they'll stretch out, which is why I'm wearing them right now.
