in progress
Jun. 12th, 2012 01:41 pmOh my gods, guys, this is the problem with writing a long-term WIP: you forget really little BUT VERY IMPORTANT THINGS. LIKE THE PHASES OF THE MOON.
Sometime between Dust 19 and Dust 29 I switched the dark of the moon to the full moon. So now I have to go back through the past ten chapters checking the phases of the moon. (Because there's a meeting that was supposed to happen on the new moon, but at some point in the past two years since I wrote Dust 19 -- almost to the day! -- I switched it to the full moon and kept referring to the full moon.) I don't even, guys.
I can't believe that Dust 19 went up freaking two years ago, almost to the day -- it went up June 6, 2010. This is relevant because Dust 29 takes place in the same location, so I'm reading carefully back over Dust 19 to see the damage to the fort, check on the High Reachers' characterization, the descriptions of the marozi, and so on. Two years, guys. I can't believe I'm writing a scene that I've been building to for two years. (I mean, granted Dust II is also going to include a scene that I've been planning since autumn of 2008, but I knew that one was going to take a long time to build to. The High Reaches thing was supposed to come much earlier, but I was writing faster then and then I sort of...developed all these other plots...anyway.)
Anyway. Also I am cursing at Wikipedia trying to (a) find the terms I want and (b) trying to figure out if I actually made up terms when I wrote this scene in Dust 19. So far this chapter stresses me out and there's not even that much of it because I keep stopping to check things and then finding that I've done them wrong, ugh. Maybe this is a sign to go back to Rising.
