One thing I do need to do is get up the courage to go somewhere by myself. I'm in England, I ought to go and see things other than the Leicester city centre (which is it, btw). If I'm brave enough to move to another country by myself, I ought to be brave enough to make at least one day trip, or even an overnight or weekend trip, by myself. (I'll start with the day trip, maybe.) So I need to decide on one place that I definitely want to visit that isn't too intimidating (I think Bath, because I've been there once and I'd like to go again), and once I've proved to myself that I can do that, then I can do a little more. (For that matter, I would like to go to London and see something that I actually want to see for once. Do you know that I've never seen the Elgin Marbles? I've been to the BM numerous times and I've never seen the damn things, and I'm a classicist.)

To put this in perspective, I didn't go down to the French Quarter by myself until I was a senior in college. I lived there THREE YEARS before I was willing to take the streetcar downtown and walk around well-populated streets that I knew pretty well in the middle of the day. I have a nervous disposition. I mean, I live in Leicester and I only go to the same places, I haven't turned around and walked the opposite direction to Queens Road, which has a yarn shop that I've never been to. And bookstores! And yet I've never been, except one time in company for dinner.
