May. 5th, 2013 02:08 pmI woke up to my right wrist being very poppy -- as in, it'll pop out of joint for a second or two of intense pain, then pop back in and be fine again, but several times over the course of an hour rather than once or twice every day or every few days. It's fine now -- fine-ish, anyway; it still pops when I rotate my wrist, but that's just popping, it's not that pain and going out of joint. (I think. I'm not actually sure if that's what's happening because I don't have the medical vocabulary to describe it, but that's the closest I can get at.)
My left wrist, on the other hand, isn't popping out of joint or popping the way my right wrist is; it does this kind of crackling thing when I rotate it. While my right wrist is popping in one specific spot, my left wrist is cracking in three places in short succession, and it does sound and feel distinctly different from whatever's going on with my right wrist. And the left wrist does hurt -- I don't know exactly how to describe it, the English language is kind of failing me here; it's a constant but low-level itching or burning sensation, I guess? I wouldn't call it an ache or soreness; it's not a stabbing or stinging pain. It doesn't actually itch -- it's not an itch I want to scratch, which is probably good because then I would almost certainly scratch up to and beyond the point where I draw blood (this is why I have so many random scars, I have poor self-control) -- but it's that kind of feeling, I guess? It's the same kind of feeling that I've had the past few weeks. It's the sort of low-level that I'm not really sure ibuprofen helps, though I guess I could up the amount I'm taking. It's centered on the inner joint beneath my thumb -- though on my wrist, not in my hand and thumb. I mean, I guess at least it's consistent.
I almost want to go back to the health centre, but the last time the doctor was so unhelpful that it sort of just seems like a lost cause. (I would seriously like to know what is going on and what I can actually do to make it get better. I mean, I can not practice my hobbies and I can take painkillers, but that doesn't exactly sound like a long-term solution.)
I don't know. I'd say it was related to knitting last night, but my wrists have been acting up over the past couple days, and before last night I hadn't touched my needles in a week or more. I just miss the period of my life where I didn't have to seriously worry that a handicraft that women have practiced for millennia was going to do me serious bodily harm.
