Oct. 28th, 2013 05:37 pmI don't know why I'm more than mildly surprised at this point that, upon going, "Hey, why don't I structure this like I would a 100K novel for kicks and practice," I actually get...a plot line and subplots that would comfortably fit in a 100K novel. *weeps in corner* Like, I set it up that way. Why am I surprised? I taught myself how to put together novel plots; it's why I'm balls at writing short stories.

I do kind of wish that as long as I'm actually sitting down to do major novel-length plotting on an O&R fic, that it was the sequel to Dirt (still untitled) instead of a prequel that uses a lot of OCs. But I do know (more or less) how River is going to play out, and I still haven't made that decision for the sequel to Dirt. And since that's probably going to be the most complicated Star Wars fic I ever write (if I do end up writing it), I think I'd like to know that going in.

Speaking of O&R, I made a crack a while ago about how I should include a link to every one of Obi-Wan's hairstyles -- so I made a Pinterest board for them (not all of these are Obi-Wan's hairstyles -- some are Padme's or other characters'). (This is actually bizarrely useful to me, in the same way that headcasting characters is -- I do have headcasts for Obi-Wan and the OC narrator in River, as an aside, and I refer to them occasionally. I like having those visual references at hand to refer back to if need be.) Definitely interesting to go through my Pinterest hairstyles board and pull out what felt sci-fi enough to cut it for Star Wars and what didn't.
(While I've got inspiration boards for a couple of different stories -- Dust has like a dozen, which is typical, so typical -- O&R is the only thing I've ever written to get two separate boards just for hairstyles. What the hell, Bedlam, what the hell.)
