I don't really think Caspian is ditzy as he is confused. And he never really developed a brain-to-mouth filter because he was the heir to the throne, so he's blurting out anything that comes to mind. It doesn't particularly help that he's a little overwhelmed anyway, and of course he doesn't think that "children" can do anything, so Peter it is!
I am firmly of the opinion that Peter got very drunk after leaving Narnia. After all, he used to be an adult, it's how he copes! And the liquor's not as strong as it was in Narnia! And of course he will occasionally be joined by his siblings.
Because what happened to Cair Paravel was a horrible horrible slaughter! And even the Narnians think it may be haunted -- some think it may be haunted with the Pevensies' ghosts.
