Guys, I am SO EXCITED. You know why? I figured out what was wrong with "Old Timber to New Fires", the Caspian in the Golden Age story. Obviously Peter and Edmund aren't going to be showing Caspian around, they have a war to win, they can't babysit some princeling -- even if they both know he's a king in his own right -- from the future. This means I get to pass Caspian off into the hands of some, uh, original characters, and he gets to see the glory of Old Narnia in the mdist of the Golden Age (also known as the Great Summer, also known as the Flowering, etc. etc.) from the ground up. Also, when I write Peter and Edmund, I get distracted by the banter, which shouldn't really be there, not when the story's from Caspian's POV. Also, oh my God, the Narnian army, which is really, like, half the Narnian army, still has more people than all the native Narnians in Caspian's Narnia put together.

This would probably work better if I wasn't coming up on a two or three day streak when I won't have my computer, followed by a week when I may not have time to write. Gee, thanks, college.

I just need to clip the dead story bits out of the document and put them in a KeyNote folder instead. I love KeyNote, I should add. Also, I have come up with the elaborate political system in Golden Age Telmar, and what happened to drive some of the Telmarines into Narnia, and this makes me happy. I am such a geek. (Although I should add that I do not bite the heads of chickens. Ew, guys, I hate birds, why would I do that?)

*beams* No, I haven't started packing yet, although I did ship off two boxes of extra sheets and things I don't need till later. Why do you ask? (They are little boxes, by the way, and my mom was trying to convince me to ship three boxes. Hello, my dorm is in what used to be a completely different college campus, and pretty damn far away from the quad. Also, I do not need that much stuff. The four books I was bringing, by the way? Are not coming. They were the first four Diana Gabaldon books, which I pretty much have memorized.)

Waaaa yaaaaaa. I'm going to a new school too and my next few weeks are going to be all "OMG I BOUGHT THE WRONG BEDSHEETS" and "WHAT DO YOU MEAN MY ADVISOR IS ON SABBATICAL". Except... probably less so. Lassiter/dramatics OTP! Either way, lots of running around trying to figure shit out.

Good choice on not bringing the books. I considered suggesting not bringing them in your previous post. I brought a handful of books to college and never really touched them. Sometimes I was just busy, and sometimes I was just busy procrastinating my homework, and if I'm not reading my textbooks then I would feel too guilty to read for fun (though for some reason, that didn't really stop me in high school).

Also OMG TELMARINE POLITICS <33333333333333333333

I have to go find everything, because I've only been on campus once, and also, my first couple days aren't even on the campus or in New Orleans, but at a camp that's like, probably out in the bayous somewhere, then there will be running around on campus trying to find a lamp and a fan and, I don't know, whatever. The good news is I'm going to be there a week before my roommate, so at least I get my choice of sides of the room!

I'm bringing a couple other books, partly for the plane, but I don't really need that many books, especially when there are a bunch of books coming out in the next four months that I want to buy. *rolls eyes*

Telmarine politics! Which I actually hinted at in three separate prompt ficlets, and now I am expanding it. The king of Telmar, Obregon, who was a mild kind of guy that was fine being allies with Narnia after Narnia said, "Uh, no, you are NOT taking our land," and his brother Marroquin, who's a little bit of a religious fanatic and is throwing-slash-killing non-believers -- the Telmarine religion is the thousand little gods, who are sometimes the hundred little gods -- so a bunch of refugees flee into Narnia, Archenland, Shoushan, and Resi, the neighboring countries, but mostly Narnia, which doesn't make Marroquin happy at all, and then Obregon mysteriously dies -- sickness, supposedly, but the rumor is poison -- and then his son Betarian goes missing (turned to stone chasing the Swan Princess!), and Marroquin takes the throne, and then he starts rattling the sabers at Narnia (land of unbelievers! Rich and fertile neighboring kingdom! Easy pickings!) and even more people flee over the borders into Narnia, and Edmund frantically tries to keep peace using his elaborate spy network (one of his agents is Caspian's ancestor, uh, Caspian, who's not too fond of Narnia, but would like to keep his country in one piece, thanks), and then Telmarine bandits start coming into Narnia, except they may not actually be bandits, but Telmarine regulars in unmarked armor, so that's where Lucy is at the start of "Old Timber", and then eventually there will probably be war. Alas. And then some other stuff happens, and the Golden Age ends, and Shoushan goes on its empire-building sweep and grabs up most of the western countries, which have torn each other to shreds fighting over Narnia, and gets Telmar, and then there is a famine and some persecution and a bunch of the Telmarines flee over the mountains into sort-of vacant extremely feudal Narnia, and they more or less live in harmony with the (population extremely decimated following the Dying Times) Narnians for a century or so, then Caspian the Conqueror decides he wants to be in charge and the rest is history.

Um. In case you were wondering.

Oh ya, one definitely accumulates books too. I bought loads at Savers ($2 a book though! how could I resist?), some of which I haven't even started reading yet. Speaking of things you can buy at Savers, you know what is also unexpectedly fun to have around during one's college years? Board games. I also suggest bringing a pack of cards!

I kind of was! Yaaaay! Swan Princess and Spymaster Edmund double yaaaaaaay. I tell you, this Swan Princess thing gives me this 'trapped in a fairy tale' plot bunny. Hmm. The point where the dream becomes a nightmare, etc. Maybe written in a fairy-tale "once upon a time" tone, even.

And New Orleans is a big city with a thriving literary culture! There are plenty of used bookstores there. *dreamy* (I come from a small town, what can I say? Always have to look at the up sides of life.)

And the funny thing is that Telmarine Narnia remembers, like, half of this, if that. They remember more of their time than Narnia remembers of the Golden Age, but a thousand years. (Some days I think the entire theme of my 'verse is "the past is a foreign country; they do things differently there" and "history is written by the victors" and "history becomes legend, legend becomes myth.")

*shudders* Fairy tales are dark. And creepy.

OOOoh! Yay!
This is going to be sooo awesome, I'm glad you figured out what was bothering you about it. From what I can tell it's going to be awesome. This whole seeing the Golden Age that Caspian goes through would probably also help him get a better image, feel of how he should rule as a King of both Telmar and Narnia. Because that cannot be easy, I mean he has to satify both the once-surpressors and the once-surpressed.

And...now I have problems again. Lovely. Right now he's staring around going, "Man, I got gypped," and, "What the hell happened to Narnia by the time I got it?"
