Oh, yes, of course I get into no less than three (or maybe five) fights with my parents as soon as they arrive on campus, two of which left me in tears. And would it be so hard to at least pretend to give a damn about what I do (in the case of my father) or realize that, hey, I can make my own choices (in the case of my mother)?

*kicks things*

In other news, my roommate is even more reserved than I am, and if y'all know me -- or notice how much time I spend on the Internet -- then you know that's saying something.

I don't know that parents ever do accept that you can make your own choices, and do it well, even if they differ from what *they'd* have chosen for you. I'm...well, a hell of a lot older than you, and my parents are. Problematical.

I'm sorry to hear you're having a crappy day. :(

I'm just so goddamn frustrated. And it doesn't help that there's some other stuff going on -- I may or may not drop calc, how I'm paying for college isn't quite figured out yet, the fucking microfridge has had problems four times (for reference, I'm on fridge number three, and I'm just hoping the company comes back tomorrow so I can complain in person rather than on the phone), and my AFROTC orientation got postponed because we're on hurricane watch.

Should have gone to Wellesley.

(And it doesn't help that there's no privacy on campus. I can't even cry in my own room without my roommate seeing.)

Sorry for unloading on you.

It's not "unloading".

Each thing seems manageable (to me, but then I'm not the one having to deal with it), but it's a pain in the ass because everything's happening at once.

Cry in the shower, if you can...it might make you feel better.

*shudders*

101 reasons why I'm so very, very glad room-mating isn't an entrenched institution here... I howled my head off every night in Orientation Week, I think I would've stabbed anyone I had to share space with during said period.

Can you have a poke around your dorm/ campus and try to find a relatively private hidey-hole in which to have a good howl?

Many sympathies :s

Shared showers. I'm either going to have to start taking showers at three in the morning or figure out when the majority of my dorm is out. (Not that I particularly care all that much whether they're there or not, but...God, some days I really wish I'd stayed home and went to Central, but then again, my parents. There are some very good reasons I went to the other side of the country.)

At least my roommate and I are both pretty quiet -- as far as I can tell -- I was expecting her to be more boisterous. No. Even more reserved than I am, and seriously, saying something.

There are a couple places in my dorm that might work. The stairwells in the center of the dorm, for one. (JL has a section called "The Deep." I desperately, desperately wish my room was there, even if it is on the third floor.)

That's something, at least.

*Glances around her room guiltily* I've got a double room all to myself, here.

Just remember, if you're a loud cryer, that stairwells echo ;).

I had a teeny-tiny single at Brown and I was absolutely fine with it. I am willing to be an RA next year just so I have a single even if I get bothered by confused freshmen twenty-four/seven. I do not understand how people feel that having a single is a bad thing.

I am a very quiet cryer. (And if the closest I can get to privacy happens to be the bathroom stalls, then so be it. God, I should have gone to Wellesley, where there's actual open space on campus.)

Clearly, they are all MAD.

I'm sorry you're having such a crappy day when this should have been some of the most awesome times of your life. Parents can be horrible, especially when you're fighting over things. I hope you feel better soon and that you can start having fun.

Within fifteen minutes. And it makes it even worse that my roommate's parents hover, while my parents drop me off at the school and are all, "Bye! See you tomorrow!"
