BAD FORM ADAMSON. Please notice that your Narnia makes no sense whatsoever by any map's standards.

Castle Telmar/Miraz's castle, yes? River Rush, yes? Aslan's How, yes? Cair Paravel, yes? Beruna, yes?

Now. How, by any map -- and none of these maps line up, by the way; I can't even think of a way to make the map in my head line up -- does Miraz, coming from the Telmarine castle, has to cross the River Rush at Beruna to get to Aslan's How when the Pevensies, coming from Cair Paravel, also have to cross the River Rush to get to the Shuddering Wood and then to Aslan's How?

Let's ignore the fact that on the Walden map, Miraz's castle isn't there and the fords of Beruna aren't even on the River Rush. The pretty Narnia map doesn't have the fords, but it does have Miraz's castle, but it also has Lantern Waste in the far, far north on the other side of some random mountains. And on the print map of Narnia, the castle is way off in the west and the river isn't marked. And my default reference map isn't big enough to read, so.

GUYS. I am SO CONFUSED. Y'all have no idea. I have no idea how to make this line up, and I need it to line up. I mean, it's not like the Pevensies crossed the Rush twice, once to get to the Shuddering Wood and once to get to the How, because how did the Narnians cross it, then?

SO CONFUSED. Does anyone even want to fake trying to make this add up for me?

(Yes, I'm writing fic that's not "Old Timber", and now I'm trying to figure out how to get Edmund and Caspian from the How to Cair Paravel. Cair Paravel the ISLAND. *beats head into wall*)

ETA: Wait, where did the Narnians cross to get to Miraz's castle? Did they really get the centaurs down that path at the Gorge? There's a PC map in the comments, which says they crossed at the Great River and not the Rush -- I swear it was the Rush in the book, but what the hell do I know, anyway -- but either Narnia is the teeny-tiniest country ever or they can travel really fast. I vote for option A.

Looks like, if you're going by the movie, you should basically just leave the Rush out of it, and have everyone crossing The Great River at different points. At least I think it's the Great River.

OH THANK GOD. That's the officially PC one, I can use that. I swear to God they were crossing the Rush in the book, though. Why is Miraz's castle so far away, though? Going by my 'verse, that's, like, a ten day trek away from the How.

Oh they were definitely crossing the Rush in the book, because they have that whole conversation about the Rush not being in a gorge.

Yeah, and the distance from the How to Beruna looks WAY too far for the Narnians to have chased the Telmarines on foot to the river.

Maybe they went west from the How into the woods, through the small clearing, and crossed further on, like above where Trufflehunter's Sett is on the map? I am assuming it's a shallow and easy cross there. :D

But at least they'd be around the Telmarines at Beruna, although then they'd be out in the open, and it's a long way to go in one night... I am stuck.

Well, if the country is sentient and Cair Paravel moves stuff around for convenience, perhaps Narnia moves stuff around now and then. Maybe she likes a change, maybe she's making it easier/more difficult to get somewhere for a reason...*shrugs*

Yes, the Pevensies cross the River Rush. However, by this map, Miraz has to cross the Great River, or possibly the Great River *AND* some random tribituary (the one north of the How, while the Rush is south).

MY annoying question of the day is: where the hell is Telmar? I was thinking North, but that's apparently 'Wild Lands'. Soo... west?

Are Caspian's folk still in contact with Telmar then?

Alas, Narnia is in a drought, but not by Telmarine standards! Edmund goes, "Oh my God drought," and Caspian says, "What? This is a wet summer. I've seen more rain in the past few days than I've seen in the past few years," and Edmund says, "Jesus Christ, no wonder Peter's in such a horrible mood."

According to the official PC map -- snacky linked to it up above, and oh my God, Narnia, I know you changed in a millennium but not that much -- they both crossed the Great River.

Well, on my default map, which is linked above but isn't big enough anywhere to actually show anything, there's a little tiny sign in the southeast of Narnia saying "Pass to Telmar." So my Telmar is on Narnia's southeast corner; it borders the Archenland mountains and Narnia. And then I make the happy assumption that those maps refer to Caspian's Narnia and the Wild Lands are, in Peter's time, civilized countries.

Caspian's folk are not in contact with Telmar. They're not actually in contact with anyone; they're, like, the most isolated country ever.

I don't see why not! It seems perfectly reasonable to *me*...though ineptshieldmaid *does* keep calling me batshit and nutters and all, so perhaps reasonable is a relative term...*grins*

It does seem a believable sign of ill health in Narnia, since she was such a green and fertile country, and drought would really show something was terribly wrong with her.

I wonder if Peter and Edmund could make rain?

Well, it's likely that all the energetic and motivated Telmarines (aka the troublesome ones) left there, so there wouldn't be a lot of intereting ones to go to Telmar *for*, imo.

I am going to stick to the old, "These are medieval maps and they suck," theory.

Not quiet so much as angry all the time. He's happier now! Narnia's starting to repair itself now that he's back! Edmund asks about his headache and Peter's reply is, "Better. Still want to kill something, though." And Caspian backs away slowly.

I am trying to think of little subtle ways Narnia could be fucked up -- drought, earthquakes, how deeply the trees are sleeping, the faint feeling of unease down the back of Edmund's spine and Peter's bad temper -- and how she's starting to repair herself now that Peter's back.
