Oh my God, what the fuck, none of you people told me the RAF used a COMPETELY DIFFERENT RANK SYSTEM THAN THE REST OF THE KNOWN WORLD.
Thank God I decided to Wikipedia this crap; I was looking for nicknames for the British Army for Edmund to use. Please don't let me have actually referred to Peter as "Lieutenant Pevensie" in official fic and not just in comments, seeing as how that position DOESN'T EXIST. When he was in Burma he was probably an Flying Officer, yes? But by Malaya he probably was a Flight Lieutenant.
Ha, but Peter would have one of these on his uniform for this.
Now, if you excuse me, I'll be over here SULKING.

Date: 2008-10-10 01:13 am (UTC)"dust" was changed within approximately five seconds of this post going up. silly me assuming that the brits were like us and used the same rank system for the army, marines, and air force. APPARENTLY NOT. NO. THEY HAVE TO BE DIFFICULT.

The bells of hell go ting-a-ling-a-ling
For you but not for me
For me the angels sing-a-ling-a-ling
They've got the goods for me
Oh death where is thy sting-a-ling-a-ling
Oh grave, thy victory?
The bells of hell go ting-a-ling-a-ling
For you but not for me
Cheerful chaps they were!

So don't worry, just remember it in future.

Date: 2008-10-10 07:56 pm (UTC)I see Peter has found his kindred spirits. Edmund will be horrified.

Date: 2008-10-10 08:57 pm (UTC)Though not necessarily in that order! And yeah, I totally see Peter in the RAF. If you haven't heard of Derek Robinson - he wrote some really good books about the RAF - "Piece of Cake" is set during the Battle of Britain, and a sequal takes place in Africa (can't remember the name). Memorable characters, and fantastic dialogue - as well as showing the reality of the stress and madness of the time. Might help - because I can see Peter hating some of the arrogant lads with no clue of war, and sympathising with the battle hardened and worn veterans.
