Nov. 18th, 2008 08:42 pmOkay, note to self, in the middle of a chapter is not the best time to start watching shows you've never seen before on Hulu. Although. On the bright side, there are only five episodes up, I've already watched three, and I don't have my 9:00 tomorrow, so I'm free till one. On the other hand, I can hear y'all screaming at me in rage from my dorm room. *smiles sunnily*
ETA: *snort* I love how my life as a writer turns into this: Wow, I cannot, for the life of me, remember what a cliff looks like. GUYS. I am from WASHINGTON. I am from the WILD PARTS of Washington, not civilized Seattle. I grew up camping in the Pacific Northwest! We have ashack cabin at the top of a cliff! I should know this! *beats head into desk*
You, over there, laughing at me, shut up, this isn't funny.

Date: 2008-11-19 03:03 am (UTC)how do you NOT REMEMBER what a cliff looks like? Or are you looking for a particular type of cliff.

Date: 2008-11-19 03:08 am (UTC)Cliff? You know, where the ground comes to an abrupt end?

Date: 2008-11-19 03:55 am (UTC)Really, at this point, I should know better than to say anything.

Date: 2008-11-19 04:01 am (UTC)You know, I think that problem is in fact a symptom of knowing TOO MUCH about cliffs. I would never wonder what a cliff looked like... but then I'm not sure if I've ever seen a proper cliff. I am familiar with the *idea* of cliff, but actual cliff... Not so much.

Date: 2008-11-19 04:03 am (UTC)Anyways, yes. What does an Arthurian "purist" consider to be, er, canon? I am mystified by the idea. :)

Date: 2008-11-19 04:09 am (UTC)You know, I never thought that this would come in handy. Just goes to show...

Date: 2008-11-19 04:10 am (UTC)Presently, if someone speaks of Arthurian 'canon' I will die laughing instead of giving them the credit they think they deserve. There IS NO CANON. It's like a reverse fandom: developed as a contradictory, living, knotty, twisted common mythology, and only got locked down into a single 'story' very late in the day (Malory is late 14th century, I think).

Date: 2008-11-19 04:16 am (UTC)YES. I LOVE (and hate) THAT ARTHURIAN "CANON" IS SO RIDICULOUS. And it hasn't stopped growing. People are still re-telling it to this day. I mean, I bet most of us had our first taste via TH White. *beam*

Date: 2008-11-19 05:29 am (UTC)I spammed lassiter's page the other day with my plans to teach a course or write a book or something on Arthurian Myth and Legend and call it 'The Two Thousand Year Fandom'.
Bleh, T.H. White bores me. Stephen R Lawhead was cool, though... :D

Date: 2008-11-19 11:28 am (UTC)Heh. No, I completely understand. A couple weeks ago I was writing a scene and blanking on what Lenox Mall--which is fifteen minutes from my apartment and I've been to a million times--looks like.
