news from the floodzone
Jan. 8th, 2009 10:28 pmHey, if y'all have heard about the flooding in Washington State -- yeah, that would be around where I live. And it is damn impressive looking; I would take pictures if I ever had my camera on me.
The good news is that I live at the top of a hill; the bad news is that I now live on riverfront property.
The other bad news is that Snoqualmie Pass has been closed all day and may or may not reopen tomorrow; I'm supposed to go over to Seattle tomorrow. My flight's not actually till Sunday morning, so yay, grace period, but hi, my mom and I were supposed to hang out in Seattle.
See, it's not because of snow or ice on the road the way it was when I flew back from New Orleans, it's because we have unseasonably warm temperatures (thus the flooding) and the pass ic closed because of avalanche danger.
Yeah. I don't have to worry about flooding in the city I go to college, the one that's below sea-level; it's the city that's 1500 feet above sea level that I have to worry about. Worse than the 1996 flood! That's the one where Main Street flooded. Main Street's not flooded here, but Dogtown is, apparently. And I was out on Umptanum Road yesterday; the flooding is wretched. The Yakima River is high. (I live on a road named Riverbottom, for reference. Lower Riverbottom is now on the bottom of the river. Except! I live on a hill, just before it dips down to the, you know, river bottom.) There are two hundred people evacuated to St. Andrew's.
...I should probably pack. In the vague hope that the pass will be open tomorrow.
