I don't think anyone understands how much this excites me.

I grew up on Burroughs, of course -- Tarzan first, then Pellucidar and the Mars and Venus books, as well as most of his other novels. His Barsoom stories were never my favorite, but damn. If they can pull this off -- and it'll be damn hard; Hollywood's never done a good Tarzan movie and I don't have particularly high hopes that they ever will, but John Carter of Mars is something else entirely -- then damn. *crosses fingers*

Come on, Hollywood, you did Narnia! I know you don't fuck up everything! One wouldn't think Burroughs would be so hard to transport to the screen, but I think it's the sheer amount of crack in some of those books, mingled with some of the seriousness there. (And Burrough is fucking awesome, man. AWESOME. That explains so much about what I write, doesn't it?)

You know who would make a good John Carter? Ben Browder. (My dad and I had this conversation before he went to Thailand and I came to New Orleans; I think it was Ben Browder who I said would make a good John Carter. I know I said Christian Bale for Tarzan/John Clayton. Browder might have been David Innes, though. *frowns*)

Yeah. I grew up on early twentieth century pulp fiction. GO ME.
