bedlamsbardNote to self: cannot base High Reaches on Channeled Scablands, since there are some pretty unique geological circumstances responsible for the Scablands and I am in no way, shape, or form certain of my ability to describe the areas around them accurately.
Also, because the High Reaches were never supposed to look anything like the Scablands. Instead I meant them to look a little more like this, although even that's not quite right -- that's further east in Washington that I'm actually thinking; I'm trying to picture the area between Yakima and Ellensburg for the High Reaches, which I can't find pictures of. Wait, no, I lied, I thought of actual search criteria!
This area, the Yakima River Canyon. (Without the river, so much; it's just that using the river as search criteria is the only way I can think of to get pictures. The hills are mostly what I'm thinking of; I'd have to check canon to see if there's a real river running through the area. Which isn't canonical; I think a lot of maps alternately place the White Witch's castle and Miraz's castle in the place where I have the High Reaches. In my head, those were both further south and east.)

Just because it's a cool picture: Wild Horses Monument above the Columbia River, around Vantage, WA. There's this set of horse statues on this bluff overlooking the Columbia -- I think they may actually technically be unfinished, but it's impossible to tell. I've been up there a couple of times; if any of y'all get up around eastern Washington, you really should go see them. They're something else.
