I see I was spoiled when it came to roommates last year.

...I want to tell my suitemates to get the hell out of my room, but it's...not very practical. Damn. Because they're in here, I keep having to go into their room so I can do my reading for class, but I can't take my laptop because both their desks have stuff all over them. (Yes. I am the only person in my suite who actually uses my desk to do work on.)

*bites lip* I want them to go away so I can eat potato chips and watch Narnia or Eureka or House or something and knit and write. I play well with other human beings until the point when I do not have my own space.

...I suppose I could go to the laundry room across the hall, they have tables. Or see if there's anyone in the lounge. But I just want my room, since my roommate went out running. Go watch YouTube music videos in your own room, guys!

(Yes, I...could just tell them this to their faces, but I am not generally that aggressive.)

ETA: I should also note that my room is the one with the TV.

As someone who barely survived suite living for a year and a half, it's within proper etiquette - and your dorm-living right to a semblance of peace and quiet - to politely and firmly tell them that, no, you really need some you time at this moment.

Let them go YouTube the videos in the laundry room. Better yet, let them get thier own television - I bet they could find one for $30 or under via Craigslist.

You do and will have to actively defend your right to introversion time. You don't need to do it meanly or rudely, but most people don't get subtle hints, and you do actually *need* personal times.

I am too socially conditioned to be polite and kind. *twitches frantically* (And I'm an only child, and I spent my entire summer basically holed up in my bedroom not interacting with other people except for my parents at dinner time, and I already had my social interaction for the day; I spent three hours baking cupcakes with four or five other women for the Activities Expo tomorrow.) I just. Want. Some PEACE AND QUIET.

Unfortunately the TV is my roommate's. And they are not even watching something I could be content with! Like the Food Network. I just want the evenings to write, or do things on my own, because I'm co-writing with aella_irene during the day when we're both awake, or in classes, or doing homework.

...clearly I am not dealing with this very well.
