the usual miscellaney
Oct. 10th, 2009 06:37 pmGod, the one thing in the entire Russian Revolution period from around 1900-1921 I'm interested enough in to write fifteen pages on, and there's so little academic research done on it that even my professor is telling me to find something else.
Women's Battalion of Death. I weep, guys, I really do. WOMEN'S BATTALION OF DEATH. My two favorite things! Women! The military! Women in the military! With a really cool name!
But not enough research done for me to be able to pull together enough sources to write a paper, apparently. Damn. (Right now I've found three sources that I'd be able to get my hands on immediately, and two that I think I'd have to request via interlibrary loan.)
My friends have all left to go see the roller derby bout at UNO -- I was going to go, but I woke up and went, "I hate humanity. I need alone time," so they left about ten minutes ago and I am here, in my room, blissfully alone. I could do homework -- like try and figure out something to do with my paper rather than write about the WOMEN'S BATTALION OF DEATH (okay, sue me, the name) -- or I could write -- nah, I spend most of my day writing -- or knit and watch TV. Or read. Perhaps I'll read!
Huh. Speaking of reading, do y'all recommend C.S. Forester's Horatio Hornblower books? They seem to be My Type of Thing, and the library has at least some of them.
Yesterday, I bought this book at Borders. It's research! For the nobel
aella_irene and I are writing! Plus, you know, Bernard Cornwell recommends it and someone else calls it a nineteenth century Band of Brothers, and I'm all over the military history, you know me.
I cannot wait until the course lists are up for next semester. I am going to pick classes that I am, gasp, actually interested in.
