Jun. 23rd, 2010 10:45 pmAm five episodes into Rome S1 right now. Octavian is my favorite. Also Caesar and Atia; I just keep wondering what crazy shit she's going to pull next. And Pullo! I really want to like Vorenus, but it's not quite working. I do feel really sorry for his wife; she's trying so hard. And I am curious about Octavia; I feel that she has hidden depths.
(I know so little about Roman history that most of this is new territory for me, sadly. No, I haven't even read the Shakespeare. I really need to take a Roman history class; I have a pretty strong grasp on Rome past about 300 or so, about when it turns into the Byzantine Empire, but most of my background is ancient and classical Greece.)
In conclusion: still hate people. Taking Japanese makes all other foreign languages seem easy because you don't have to learn three new alphabets. (Quote from Latin: "Why did they even bother inventing English? All the words are the same!" Not my quote; Latin full of vocal majors and pre-med people.) Geology is so boring I may weep. (Seriously, a memo to the rest of the class, I really really hope plate tectonics isn't new to you, because I think I'm on go-round number four or five.) Tomorrow I have a lab, also likely to make me weep; please to not be going for the full three hours, yes? On the bright side, Friday I only have Latin, not geology. Desperately want to bake cupcakes.

Date: 2010-06-24 08:00 am (UTC)Your statement about Japanese makes me feel *so confident* about next semester. But at least two of my language classes will be easy (and when you add them together, you get English!).
I can see how geology could be boring. I mean, *my* class was filled with entertaining anecdotes about canoeing trips with dead cows, but without those it would have been bad.

Date: 2010-06-24 10:29 pm (UTC)We were reviewing affixation in Morphology this week, and yeah- there are only so many times I can hear 'this is where a prefix goes' before I am alseep in my chair.

Date: 2010-06-25 12:44 am (UTC)Heh! I was actually kind of surprised to realize that hey, Latin is technically my fourth language! (Not that I am fluent in German or Japanese, but I've had them. English is my baby, of course.)
Today my professor brought her dog to class! So that was exciting.

Date: 2010-06-25 12:57 am (UTC)Technically, I went French->French & Latin->French & German->Latin->Latin, German, & Japanese next semester. But, uh, the only one I remember much of is Latin, except for a few words in French (oh, high school language classes, does anybody learn anything from you?). I took four and a half years of French, but the only languages I can count to ten in are Spanish and Latin.
