Dec. 5th, 2010 05:53 pmI almost didn't go to the barbeque today -- if you saw my tweet earlier, I was nearly in panic attack mode at the very idea of it, and when I woke up this morning my breathing/hyperventilating thing was back and going in and out before it came back with full force in the forty-five minutes before when I was deciding whether to go or not. My roommate walked me over, at least so I could drop off the cake and say hi, and then we came back. I think once I was there I probably would have been fine, because I more or less know the people, but I ended up getting really worked up over the prospect of go someplace I've never been + meet with people in an unordered setting + go with none of my close friends + social anxiety even at the best of times. So I went, dropped off the cake, refused offers of wine or beer, and came back.
Second event of the day went much better, and it was actually close enough in time to the first that I pretty much would have had to leave immediately anyway. My student group went down to this little restaurant in the Quarter, and then we had Seriously Delicious Food. It was teetiny; the pictures on the website make it look significantly bigger than it actually is. I had the Ploughman's Lunch, although I didn't eat the cheese (I don't eat cheese except on certain things), and we had sweet potato biscuits as an appetizer. NOM. I need to find a recipe for sweet potato biscuits, they were amazing, seriously. Totally a fun place to visit for lunch if you're ever in New Orleans!
Also, the weather dropped about thirty degrees between yesterday and today. Yeah, New Orleans, you're a real whackshow.
