cofax7: The Pevensies on the beach at Cair Paravel, text Carpetbaggers (Narnia - Carpetbaggers)

Finally, she knows that something’s gone right – that, at least for this purpose, however small it might be (and it isn’t at all, not to Cordylion and his daughter and their people), they’re meant to be in Narnia.

Huh. Now, that's interesting. Because you've been so careful to keep the question of Aslan unanswered so far, and yet this is fairly clearly Aslan's working, unless Lucy's taken to (very convenient) hallucinations.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN?!!

I really really love the layers of meta here: Lucy and her sibs are themselves legends, mere outlines of individuals fitted with attributes through nearly two thousand years of repetition and confabulation; while the Narnians around her are able to tell eddas and epics about not only her time (and what came before), but things which happened hundreds of years later. Mind-bending, for her. ETA: And the disagreement about the story between Mayor and the girl! Perfect, because there is no true version of a story, all versions are true, but what does that mean when the story becomes a person walking out of a legendary past? End edit.

And the fog of time and oral tradition morphs everything just a little (or a lot), and the Pevensies can try to resist it, but the weight of expectation of thousands of followers (worshippers) is bound to change not only their behavior, but their very concept of their own identities. And the older three are rather more pragmatic about some things: they'll end up playing to the mythology if it helps them win the war, and worry about the theological & ethical repercussions later.

And then there's Eustace and Jill, who were last in Narnia 300 years ago but there are no legends about them. Or perhaps there are and nobody's mentioned? It would be less like King Arthur and more like, oh, Sacajawea showing up, I suppose. Someone who played a relatively minor role, all things considered, but who is remembered for that, at least.
