bedlamsbard: natasha romanoff from the black widow prelude comic (marching band '03)

Tomorrow is a Very Busy Day. I have Solo & Ensemble in the morning and afternoon, and for all you non-musical type people out there, what it is is pretty much what it sounds like: a bunch of high school students performing solo pieces and ensemble pieces on a bunch of different instruments (all of them, not just band instruments, a.k.a. piano, strings, guitar, etc.). In Washington State, you're judged on a scale of 1 to 5, 1 being superior, 2 being excellent, 3 being good, 4 being poor, and the joke on 5 is "why did you come?" The top performers will go on to State Solo & Ensemble. We had two last year, a senior on alto sax and a sophomore on trombone. Tomorrow, I'm playing a piano solo at 9 am, a sax trio at 1:30, and a bari solo at 2:00. In between, I'm going to watch the other EHS people that are playing. And at 2:30 I have to watch the other bari and the lead alto play, and then grab the lead alto as soon as he's done, which brings to the next thing that happens tomorrow.

Tomorrow is also Grub Tolo, which I am going to. My date happens to be the above lead alto and I don't actually have idea what we're doing, which means I don't know when or if he's picking me up or what. Which is why I have to grab him and say, "Good game last night, that was a really good duet, what are we doing tonight and do you know where my house is?" because it might help to actually have some idea of what's going on. And because of various reasons, I'm going with another group of juniors I don't know, and it's not even the same group of strange juniors as last time. Anyway, there's that, which means dinner at Strange Junior Who Used to Play Trumpet But Quit Band's girlfriend's house, then we go to the dance, which Lead Alto and I are not dressing up for, because...um, we have a communication problem. Which you can possibly guess. On the other hand, I need to grab and make sure we at least match, because that would probably be good.

People that will probably make it to state include Lead Trombonist, who went last year, Other Bari, who made All-State concert band this year and is MUCH better than me, Other Bari and Lead Alto's duet, and...I haven't heard the others. Well, I haven't heard any of them, but THEY'RE reallly good, which I know.

AND I've been playing most of today - jazz band this morning, then Katie (alto) and I got in about five minutes of practice before we got into class, then I had band, then Katie and Mila (tenor) came in to practice with me for about twenty minutes, then we had a mini breakdown and our BD had to talk us through it and told us we could just cut off half the piece, which solves a lot of problems, then we played in front of Wind Ensemble, then we practiced at Mila's house after school, then Katie and I had pep band from 5:15 to 9:00 and now I'm FINALLY home. Girls lost, boys won, and MAN, was that a good game. It was literally a last second win - 40 to 38. BULLDOG POWER!
