Not really. I think the weight of the hair is still distributed pretty evenly because of the side braid; I've never had any noticeable problems with my head inclining to the right or left with a side chignon, although I have with buns or top knots, where it's an effort to keep my head upright sometimes, depending on where the bun is. (I've been tending towards lower and lower buns recently, which is interesting -- I'm probably out of practice with having all my hair piled up in a high bun, which I used to do a lot more.)
I've tried the fishtail once or twice, but I tend to get frustrated fast. *cough*
