oh, fandom
Jan. 30th, 2012 05:27 pmToday I tried to explain my current WIP to one of my friends at school, who is fannish but not in fandom, although I'm pretty sure she understands the concept of fic. I'm sure anyone else in the classroom who was listening to me merrily talk about what a great woman Anakin Skywalker makes was really confused.
"So right now I'm writing genderswapped time-traveling lady Jedi!"
"Genderswap, like, everyone's genders are reversed?"
"Just Anakin and Obi-Wan. Anakin makes a really great woman, you know? Totally kickass."
"...and you said time travel?"
"Yeah, so Han and Luke and Leia are really confused --"
And then class started, so I couldn't explain more, so I hope she's pondering that now. Genderswapped time-traveling lady Jedi!
And then I mentioned this conversation on Twitter and a former professor linked me to Master & Apprentice, which...wow, a former professor linked me to a slash archive. (Okay, I think she's not actually a professor, but she was formerly an educator of mine (and my boss) at my uni.) (Also, yes, I know about Master & Apprentice.)
Meanwhile I am still pondering fantasy casting. Miranda Otto probably looks more like Ewan McGregor, but Lena Headey would also make a great lady!Obi-Wan, wouldn't she? And Adrianne Palicki wouldn't be a bad lady!Anakin. (I mean, I don't think she's as pouty as, say, Keira Knightley, but still!)
As an aside, the last time I was writing Star Wars was my senior year of high school, so sometimes I just come full circle.
