Wow, after more than a month of FREAKING THE FUCK OUT, Leicester finally replied to me. I wonder if it was one of my annoyed e-mails (three to the Postgraduate Admissions Office, one to the International Office) that did it, or maybe it actually takes a month? But finally! Finally I can stop worrying! Well. I mean, I can worry about different things, like getting a visa.

Also, I wonder if my one-month summer program at Cambridge last year counts as "previous study in the UK"? And how I fit it into this form? And if I e-mail Leicester and ask, will they ever reply?

The one month probably does not count -- in terms of visas, they're essentially asking if you've entered the country on a student visa before, because then they'd screen you differently, consider whether you're going to try to overstay, etc. First time with anything usually gets treated differently, probably more generously. One month programs usually don't require student visas, in any country, and I am nearly 90% positive this is true US citizens going to the UK, since that falls under the standard tourist visa limit (which is...anything under 6 or 4 months, I think). When I studied in the UK, I was a few weeks shy of a full semester and I did not have to get a student visa (mind you, this was in 1999...). Make a consulate give you a checklist if Leicester hasn't done it already.

That makes sense. Since I was only there for a month, I didn't even have to get a visa -- and I don't it counts as any kind of formal study, since I didn't even get university credit for it.
