bedlamsbardHuh, I've been on radio silence for a while, haven't I?
Since the last time I updated I have:
1) Been to Cambridge to hang out withhighlyeccentric and her gentleman friend. I forgot how much I liked Cambridge, though there's a possibility that I've been in England way too long, since about five minutes after I walked out of the train station I looked around and went, "Man, Cambridge is way more posh than Leicester (true). But it's probably full of dicks." *cough* It was fun! highlyeccentric is excellent company and it was great to see her again.
2) Been to London to hang out withaella_irene and gmh, where we had lunch and went to the Pompeii & Herculaneum exhibit at the British Museum. (It was cool. They had the Pan and goat statue -- of course I was going to link that -- and it's always pretty awesome seeing something in person that you've studied in class. There were only a couple of things that were egregiously wrong, and I'll grant them that they're sort of controversial things, at least in Roman archaeology.)
3) Written about a third of my dissertation, wordcount-wise. Huh, thinking of it that way makes me feel like less of a failure -- I've got my intro and about half a chapter (out of three) written, so just under 5K out of a maximum of 15K.
4) Started painting my nails more regularly. I usually do it once or twice a year as the urge takes me, but I've got a whole bottle of nail polish remover and I'd like to use it instead of just throwing it away when I move out. I'm not great at painting my nails -- I don't know if it's my ability or the nail polish I use, but my nails usually chip within an hour -- but practice makes perfect, I guess. Right now they're Rimmel, "Pop Your Pink." (Yes, they're bright pink.)
5) Started watching Sons of Anarchy. I'm halfway through the second season now. I like it a lot; I'm going through it pretty quickly.
6) My last flatmate moved out today, which means I'm all alone in the flat for the next month. I've got to buy my plane tickets and start making arrangements to ship my stuff home. It's just me and my poor life choices now, ack.
