bedlamsbard*shakes fist* Curse my ability to, 99% of the time, come up with a plot bunny at the drop of a hat! I mean, it's a great superpower, except when I want to be doing something else.
The one where pre-RotS/Clone Wars Anakin and post-ANH/pre-RotJ Darth Vader switch places! I'm not really sure what Vader ends up doing back in the Republic -- nothing good, probably -- but I'm kind of enchanted by the idea of Anakin waking up in Vader's chambers, being totally confused, and having to hide in the ventilation shafts (or something) until he can steal a ship and escape. While talking to Obi-Wan's Force ghost.
Who lies to him.
Similar lies to what he told Luke: he doesn't tell Anakin that he's Vader; he tells Anakin that his Anakin Skywalker died in Order 66 and that Darth Vader used to be a Jedi Knight. ("Who?" Anakin demands, his fists clenching in anger. "Sora Bulq? Tol Skorr? One of the other renegades?" "Who he was before he was consumed by the Dark Side is no longer important," Obi-Wan says; death has apparently made him more obscure than ever, which takes some doing. "The last vestiges of the man who was once a Jedi Knight were burned away many years ago.") He tells Anakin that Vader not only murdered Padme, but also Obi-Wan himself. (Presumably he also goes to Yoda and says, "YODA DON'T TELL HIM," and Yoda goes, "Uh, a good idea I think this is not WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU also wait what?"
Then he points Anakin in the direction of the Rebel Alliance and crosses his fingers that this doesn't all end in disaster.
ETA: Vader ends up with Sidious (of course), who's partially really happy at the evidence that he succeeded and a little disappointed that he didn't get the perfect physical specimen that Anakin Skywalker currently is. After various atrocities, the Jedi Council sends Obi-Wan to deal with Vader, and they end up dueling. On Mustafar, of course. And Vader drops the bombshell: "No, Obi-Wan, I am Anakin Skywalker."
And then actual Anakin Skywalker drops out of the sky because of ~magic/technology/the Force/whatever and blocks his killing stroke.
So what we're getting at here is that I really want an excuse to write a literal Anakin Skywalker vs. Darth Vader fight. (This is the second time I've come up with it; the other one is in the gender-swapped time-traveling lady Jedi AU, where it also didn't make it onto the page because I...never finished that story...or properly started it, really.)
