Current mood: I am never going to find a place to live in New Orleans and I'm going to be stuck in Ellensburg forever.

*beats head into desk*

ETA: I have seen the face of hell and it is trying to find an apartment in a city you are 2000 miles away from. Seriously reconsidering this whole graduate school thing.

I need to just cave and get plane tickets and a hotel reservation so I can actually visit the potentials in person. *sigh* But it's a full day's travel either way and it's such a hassle...

Really wishing that I had a friend in the New Orleans area that I could ask to go and look. I mean, it's not exactly a trial going to NOLA for a week, it's just the actual travel part that is so much hassle. (I hate traveling, so why do I keep moving places that are 12+ hours away from where I live, that is the question. Oh, yeah. My hometown is on the other side of a mountain range from the airport, that makes flying anywhere a hassle.)

If you have the money, use a real estate agent. We used Jenna Swain with Villere Realty and couldn't have been happier. Come up with a general idea of what you want (size range, price range, neighborhoods) and call the agent to request some listings.

Added: Also, the Papillion isn't a terrible option. You can break your lease there with a 1 month notice so you can keep apartment hunting once you arrive.

I did just get offered an apartment in the Papillon, though I hesitate slightly because of how far away from Tulane it is. On the other hand, the shuttle service is pretty good.

It's not a bad jumping off point. The shuttle is good, and there are two convenient NORTA options: the streetcar half a block away and the 15 bus two blocks over.
