So I am in New Orleans again! Or rather I have been in New Orleans for a couple of days now. L. (that's my former roommate Texas, for those of you that used to keep track) picked me up from the airport, and after we dropped off my stuff at my new place, we went out to dinner. Thursday was running around like a crazy person, finding out that I'd forgotten to pay my August rent (CRYING SO MUCH CRYING) immediately after FINALLY getting my internet hooked up, then dinner and drinks with Texas. This is actually the first time I have been in an actual bar in the U.S. to drink, not for some other purpose. Watermelon mojitos at The Bulldog: SO GOOD. Yesterday was YET MORE running around: I got the rent taken care of, I went uptown to try and get my splashcard (a no go until I get registered, which I couldn't do until I talked to my department, but then I eventually got hold of my department and got to talk with Dr. K and get things cleared up). So I am now registered for classes! I am going to die from overwork this term. (Latin, Greek, remedial Greek -- I'm going to audit 1010, and then Ancient Christianity. Normally I'd take a modern language too, but Dr. K was like, uh, maybe you should just stick to trying to relearn Greek and Latin this term.)

I also walked like ten miles yesterday, so spent most of today in my apartment not moving before rousing myself to go buy yet more stuff. Ugh. I never really thought about HOW MUCH STUFF I'm used to having just to function. Like, basic foodstuffs and toilet paper, but then there's like, I need a strainer for the sink, I still need like three small trashcans that I can't find anywhere within walking distance (there's a shuttle to Walmart, but I'm mildly afraid that they won't take me unless I have my splashcard -- that's Tulane's cutesy name for the ID card -- and also...Walmart). I'm on ethernet and not wifi so I can't even use my computer on the couch, just at the desk by the...thing in the wall that the modem has to plug into, and pondering whether I ought to buy a router so I can have wifi and also buy a TV, stuff, stuff, stuff.

I haven't even used the stove yet; I've been surviving on juice smoothies from Fresh Market (SO CUTE and also conveniently closer than Whole Foods, which was my go-to grocery store when I lived on-campus but is way far away from where I live now) and restaurant food and/or takeaway. There is an excellent pho place like three minutes from my apartment that has a really fast turn around on takeout, so I'm sure this won't end in me eating my body weight in pho at all. At least I now own some food, and I finally took the microwave oven out of the box so now I can have toast tomorrow morning.

I've been too fried to write lately, which is really distressing me since my usual daily output over most of the past year has been around 1500-2500 mark. It really fucks me up when my daily minimum drops below 500 -- I know that's a lot for some writers, but it's really not for me, so...trying to get my brain back together for that.

...the other thing that's really frustrating me right now is that I can't figure out where trash goes in the Pappi. I know where the recycling goes, since it's in the parking garage right where the freight elevator is (which is conveniently close to my flat, so I'm always using it instead of going through the winding corridors to get to the actual elevator), but I can't figure out if trash goes there too or if it's just recycling. I'm ninety-five percent certain there's trash disposal on each floor, but I don't know where and it's making me crazy, though it's not so urgent a situation yet that I have to ask at the desk. I KNOW, THIS IS SO MINOR AND YET SO FRUSTRATING. I bet it's something really obvious, too. (Actually, I know there are people on my dwircle who used to live in the Pappi, so this is like a blatant plea for help, lol.)

My apartment is very nice, though. I desperately need to clean the floors, I'm just too fucking tired to do so. Maybe tomorrow.
