Ah, high school. Where drama reigns supreme and there is enough homework to drown a surprisingly large elephant. Also, almost enough school spirit to mire a small elephant in quicksand. Homecoming is next week!

In other words, I am busy, and am once again looking for solo ensemble music. This time legitimately.

Small woodwind ensemble
We Speak Etruscan, Lee Hyla, Bari Sax-Bass Clarinet duet
Trio-Miniatures, Walter S. Hartley, Alto Sax-Bari Sax duet w/ piano accompaniment

Baritone Sax solo
Concerto in D Minor, Tomaso Albinoni, trans. Trent Kynaston
Divertissement, Eugene Bozza, arr. Arthur Ephross
Fable, Jan Krzywicki
Jazz Sonata, Ramon Ricker
Rhapsodie, Harald Genzmer
Sonata No. 6, J.S. Bach, ed. Ted Kynaston
Sonata, Walter S. Hartley
Sonatina, John C. Worley
Undercurrent, Newell H. Long (supposed to be the bari sax solo, but I've never heard, and there's no sample of the music up on the site or anywhere I looked)

What did you end up choosing for baritone sax music?

I ended up playing First Concertino by Georges Gilhaud from this book (http://www.amazon.com/Concert-Collection-Saxophone-Accompaniment-Educational/dp/B000I1490I/ref=sr_1_1/102-1243471-3024927?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1189472082&sr=8-1). I bought Undercurrent and Sonata by Garland Anderson (http://windmusicplus.safeshopper.com/1876/11802.htm?521), but Undercurrent was too boring for me and I didn't think I could learn the Anderson in time. The Anderson's good, but it's very contemporary, and not really to my taste for concert music; I'm really a more classical person. I've played around a little with it since, but not the whole thing and not with accompaniment. I'm leaning towards the Bozza or the Krzywicki for this year; although I'd love to play the Ricker, I don't think it's quite solo ensemble material. Maybe for my senior recital.

Are you a bari player?

I am a baritone saxophone player, and in fact the Krzywicki "Fable" was written for me. This is why I was initially curious about your choice. I may also suggest looking into the Sonata for Baritone Saxophone by Walter Hartley or even the Sonatine for Bassoon by Alexandre Tansman. It's a GREAT read for Baritone.

Oh, wow. Thank you for the advice; it's coming up to the time when I have to choose Solo Ensemble music again!

I also forgot to mention that there's a composer named James Kasprzyk who arranged the Bach cello suites for baritone saxophone.
