Here you have to get an 80 to pass. So, um, yeah. I've got a last-minute lesson with the driving school on Friday to make sure I can at least fake knowing how to parallel park and back around a corner and all that stuff. Seriously, when do you need to know how to back around a corner?
I still don't know how to parallel park. But logically, why would I need to know? Parallel parking happens most commonly in cities, and cities have Mass Transit, and I HEART mass transit, so.
Logically, why would you need to back around a corner? I mean, seriously. And with parallel parking, they fail that portion if: you take more than three moves to get into the spot, or if you park more than a foot away from the curb. Someone I know did thirteen inches and lost the points.
Gah, that's crazy. I can drive perfectly well, but I can't parallel park, I can't do a three-point turn (I can do, like, a seven!), and other random things that I will never need to know.
Oh, snap, I forgot about that. *facepalm* Why did I think this was a good idea? Oh, yeah, because I'm seventeen and I live in a small town and my permit's about to expire.
It's Ellensburg. Even rush hour isn't that bad. (Unless you're trying to get into the high school parking lot between 8:00 and 8:25. One good reason to have a zero period, at least.)
Rush hour tends to be between 7 and 8 AM and between 5 and 6 PM, when people are going to work, and coming home from it. Maybe 7-9 and 4:30-6:30, actually, depending on the city? Even in Ottawa, with 800,000 people, rush hour is terrible... my window looks out over the main highway.
Ah. I always have wondered that. Even if it isn't particularly relevant here; a 'Burg traffic jam is three cars lined up at a red light (probably all trucks, too. Maybe a horse trailer).
Even right now, at 10 PM, the highway here is still very crowded, lots of car lights. But then you think of cities that are five or six times this size, and think about the traffic THEY have.
My parents are getting me a car when I graduate university. But, I want to go to grad school in NYC. And I would rather slit my wrists than drive in that city. You can WALK faster then the cars move during rush hour. Seriously. So I'm giving up a car for grad school, because I can't even begin to imagine the stress of driving in a city that size.
