I think the words Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End trailer about sum it up.

Let me make something clear. I am not a PotC fan. I liked it well enough, but it didn't grab me by the throat and shake me around the way it did a lot of people. The main characters don't do much for me (I like Will. Theoretically, I like Jack. Elizabeth kind of creeps me out). Norrington is my favorite character, and I'm still not sure about what they did with him in PotC 2. I like the snark, but I always like the snark. I think it would make a better TV series than movie trilogy, but that ain't happening. (I think everything would be better on TV, because oh my God, character development and plot arcs over a long period of time. This is why I'm excited about a possible Star Wars live action TV series.) It's not that I don't like pirate movies, because I do. I do, however, like Cutthroat Island better than I like Pirates of the Caribbean, which puts me in the minority of the world. I'm curious about what they're doing in PotC 3, though.

*crosses fingers* Oh, God, please redeem Norrington. At least we know he shows up and exchanges snark with Sparrow, that's a plus.

Elizabeth's hats are silly. That's all I have to say about this movie.

I hope they deal with Elizabeth's dubious morals and Norrington's very clearcut ones, that's all I want. And snark!

I think I'll see it in the vague hope that Elizabeth makes out with more random people other than Will. Also, for the silly hats, which, I'm sorry, really are tragically silly. I can't get over it.

I'm desperately hoping that Will falls in love with someone other than Elizabeth, but seeing that he proposes to her in the trailer, I'm thinking sadly not. Disney, be inventive! Do something new!

I thought Elizabeth was pretty hot when she was dressed up as a guy. She'd make a good pirate (but she shouldn't end up with Jack, because, uh, no).

... It is Disney that you're talking about. Pirates is just the same old Disney story told in a different setting, like ALL Disney movies are. Only, thankfully, with a bit more sexual frustration and snarking and omg violence and BEASTIES.

I don't want Lizabeth to end up with Jack, I just want her to make out with more random people. Like, um, Norrington, cause that'd rock. Also, Keira Knightly is always hot. Curse her.

Oh, right. It's darker, too, and they could do things with it, but they don't, or they just...argh. Seriously, this would be an awesome TV series, or even a miniseries. Why can't they just do that? Freaking movies, man.

Or Tia Dalma. That'd work. Or the Chinese pirate! She needs to learn how to work her sexual wiles, because that's totally an in-character thing to do. And Will needs to lose his innocence. Even though he's not all that innocent. I want to see him do something dark, something he can't back down from. Like torture! I have issues.

I'd like to see a miniseries or TV show... though, knowing Disney, it'd be a stupid cartoon thing without the original actors, and it'd probably suck.

Elizabeth/Tia Dalma is totally my new OTP. Wow, seriously.

Will is way too naive. Also, Orlando Bloom, while totally hot, needs to learn how to act, please.

Get the guys that do Supernatural to do it, that'd make it AWESOME. Do you watch SPN?

Hey, I can see how it'd work.

I don't think Will's naive, but I think he wants to be naive. I think he's trying too hard to do what's expected of him, even if he isn't entirely sure what it is. He's not -- quite -- his own person, yet (not a reflection on Bloom's acting skills, just a vibe I get from the character).

I totally watch SPN. And I love Sam and Dean hardcore, seriously, because man, the snark and the awesomeness there. Yeah, the SPN writers are totally allowed to do the (imaginary) PotC TV show. They can partner up with the Stargate Atlantis writers (since, y'know, they film in the SAME PLACE, lucky Vancouver-ians).

Man, Will Turner bothers me. Although, he's pretty enough to make up for that.

The SPN writers are allowed to do any imaginary TV series. Seriously. Best show on the air, and I haven't even seen the second season (don't get the channel. Will wait for the DVDs).

Everyone films in Vancouver. Seriously. Well, not everyone, CSI:NY films in LA, but there are a ton of shows that film in Vancouver.

I like Will, and I think his character is pretty interesting because of the disturbance factor. (He's the first person in the movie to kill anyone. And, okay, they don't stay dead, but he doesn't even hesitate. He's not a simple character.) I tend to not blame the writers/producers/lighting crew/etc when I can fanwank the discrepancies into interesting worldbuilding...stuff.

The SPN writers are fantastic. And the second season is so awesome. I'm slowly but surely catching up on it.

It's totally true. All of the CW shows film there, and a lot of the sci-fi shows, too (Stargate, BSG, etc). My roommate's aunt does the catering for Atlantis and BSG, and we're both like "hey, let's go to vancouver this summer :D"

I'm keeping up with the reviews from various SPN writers on LJ, but I'm going to wait to watch it till I have the discs in my hands and I can see it on my TV.

I've been to Vancouver. Bookstore, oh my God, Chapters, three stories...gah.

*cough* It tends to leave a sameness in setting, especially in SGA, but I've read some great and believable fanwank for that. See, the shows should work with this sort of thing. It can be made to work.

Yeah, my roommate and I watch SGA and we're like "Oh, look, that planet looks a lot like Vancouver! And, hey, so does that one!" Of course, the fact that everything on earth is filmed in Vancouver makes for some potentially awesome crossovery things, like when Tricia Helfer from BSG guest-stared on SPN.

Ooh, three story Chapters? Ours is only two stories. I heart Chapters. SO EXPENSIVE, but so awesome.

Here's some excellent meta on why every SGA planet looks like Vancouver (http://auburnnothenna.livejournal.com/103814.html). Hey, if it makes sense...I'll buy it.

Borders is my baby. Unfortunately the nearest one is in Yakima, about forty miles away.

I saw a photoshoot from an upcoming episode where they're gonna be in the jungle, and they had to film the entire thing in a closed set, so it WOULDN'T look like Vancouver.

I LOVE Borders. And Barnes and Nobles. And Books a Million. Alas, Canada only has one book chain.

...your logic defeats me. I'm just mad I spent twenty bucks at the B&N in Portland, and then the next morning went through my wallet and found the gift card. I think I only have like two bucks left on it anyway, though.

I got $50 in Chapters gift cards for my birthday, and used them in one shopping trip. But I tend to spend $300 to $500 a year on books, easily, so forgetting a gift card one time isn't a big deal, cause I'll use it eventually.

I buy way too many books, but I go through them so quickly. I bought a novel this afternoon, and I'm already 200 pages into it, though I've been working on my essay and chatting most of the night.

I could go to a library, but where's the fun in that?

I used to work in the library (well, I've worked in three libraries since starting ninth grade), but I still prefer to own a book, because late fees are attracted to me like you cannot believe.

I got part way through the Kay when I realized I just can't read new books during the school year; I don't have the brain capacity. The Mieville was recced by my English teacher, but it's urban fantasy, supposedly.
