That's it, I never want to hear about either the Millennium Problems or Ronald Reagan ever again. *falls over*

Next up: literary merit/genre and the Miracle on Ice. And then the school year will be OVER.

I'm just...going to write more fic now.

Isn't there the one Millennium Problem that's all about how to solve Minesweeper?

Yeah, P vs. NP. It's the one I had Flack solve in "The Calculus of Crime."

Yeah, that one.

It's not exactly all about Minesweeper, it's about how to combine an algorithm that's easy to solve with algorithm that's easy to check, and if I say anything more I'll confuse myself. I had to translate all of these from Math to English and it didn't work too well.

(Flack has hidden talents, I'm sure of it.)

I remember Charlie working on it on NUMB3RS, which is about the only reason I know anything about it at all. I took Pre-Calc, but that's as far as I ever got with Math. Thank goodness, too. I like math just fine, but I hate it at the same time.

I like math; math hates my guts and just when I think I'm understanding it, it kicks me in the face and jumps up and down on top of my spasmodically jerking body screaming, "You don't understand me! You don't understand me! You'll never understand me!"

I like math, and I like understanding it (when I do, which is rarely), but I hate the time that goes into it. I don't like having to write out proofs that go on for a full page. I'm not a patient person, so I hate investing a lot of time into something like that, when I could be off doing other things.

It's so satisfying when you can work those problems out, though, the horrible ones? When it just clicks together and it's all worth it. I'm not taking a math class next year, though, so I won't be doing any of that.

I've found that, having not done math in three years, I can't even do basic Algebra anymore. It's really a skill that you have to keep up with. I tried to help my sister with some of her homework this past year, and I just couldn't do it, at all, even though I used to be able to do differential calc and advanced trig.

You can barely do basic math when you're in advanced math; it's why taking standardized tests sucks, because you can't remember anything remotely helpful. Like subtraction.

Yeah, I noticed that, too. You're so busy thinking "okay, the exponential factor of X to the Nth power, times infinity...", and then they throw "x + y = y + 2" at you and your brain dies.

They throw 1 + 1 = ? at me and I go, "1?"

Have you ever seen the Dexter's Lab episode where Dexter is asked what the answer to 2 + 2 is, and he goes on this entire huge ramble about really advanced math, and finally comes up with 5?

Yeah, that's what I felt like, in high school math.

That's how I feel now. Ask me what the square of 98 is and I can tell you, but 1 + 1? Seriously, harder than it should be.

Try feeling what it's like when you've been out of high school *18* years! I look at the math you kidlets are doing today and want to go running off screaming!

Two more weeks! And in another week I'm never going to want to hear about the Miracle on Ice again either -- ten page paper for history.

Two more weeks isn't so bad at all :)

You should just say "screw it" and write 10 pages of porn. ;)
