And I get to add to that list, narrow it down, and throw darts at it.
Will could see Elizabeth standing on the gallows, head raised proudly and silver-gilt hair flying in the wind. They'd already put the rope around her neck, her and the rest of her crew.
"Elizabeth!" Will screamed, heedless of who might hear. "Elizabeth!"
Someone was reading the charges against her in a high clear voice that carried across the yard. Will shoved his way through the crowd, screaming his wife's name. People scattered to the sides, eyes wide and frightened, and he almost made it to the gallows before a pair of redcoats caught hold of his arms.
"No," Will said, struggling wildly. "No, damn you, no. That's my wife! Elizabeth!"
"Will," Elizabeth said as the hangman came back down along hte line, "I'm glad I saw your face again, before --"
"Elizabeth, no," he pleaded, tears running down his cheeks. "No, no --"
"I've always loved --"
She died quickly: Will heard her neck snap.

Date: 2007-06-03 02:16 am (UTC)The thing is that S1 and S2 read (so to speak) like two completely different shows. I like 'em both, but for different reasons, and S2 frustrates me in a lot of ways. Ideally, to make them work out, I'd want another season in between S1 and S2 (or, I should properly say, somewhere in the middle of S1) and a season in the middle of S2, because the transition? Yeah, not so much, and they could have done it. It frustrates me muchly, and they dropped plotlines that they really could have used (of course, it doesn't help that the show got cancelled), like the original run away X5s. Well, you can see what I would have done with a third season here (http://bedlamsbard.livejournal.com/119598.html). *sigh*
Also, I have to go to dinner, so I'll get back to you on the rest of my ravings.

Date: 2007-06-03 02:22 am (UTC)Having not seen season two, I can't really agree or disagree with this, although I know what you mean about wanting another season dropped into the middle of season 1. Although, my grievance with the first season is that it's so monotonous... every episode is the exact same, almost, except for the handful of eps that actually move the plot forward.
Mmh, dinner. I just had dessert.

Date: 2007-06-03 03:19 am (UTC)Okay, happier subjects now.
One of the things that really annoys me in S2 is that they're ignoring something that's really interesting, which is the dichotomy between Max's upbringing and Alec. They mention it very, very briefly in "The Berrisford Agenda", but otherwise it's ignored. Actually, Alec in general is marginalized a lot of the time in favor of Max as Superwoman and Also The Chosen One (gag me with a spoon), but the fact is that Alec was trained from birth to age twenty to be a killing machine and Max wasn't, Max left. Where're the eps where Alec has trouble adjusting to the world? It's practically canon that he did very little actual fieldwork because of various causes -- the fact that he was in isolation and Psy Ops for a year because of what Ben did, the fact that he was in isolation before that (I think) because of Rachel Berrisford. And I'm sick of the fact that he's always portrayed as being a worse fighter than Max, because at the very least he should be her equal, if not her better. On the other hand, she probably has more real-world experience.
That's one of the things I liked about the first season. Zack, Ben, Tinga, Syl, Krit -- all of them were portrayed as being about the same or better than Max. S2 went off on Max being The One, and Chosen One plots drive me insane. I also liked the atmosphere of S1 a whole lot better.
Wanna hear about my originals in relation to DA? (I'm sorry. I'm just whining all over you today.)

Date: 2007-06-03 04:41 am (UTC)That's a major failing of a lot of TV shows, unfortunately: they fail to pay attention to anyone except the central character, and often damage both the secondary and central characters at the same time, by underplaying the former and overplaying the latter until you're just damn sick of him/her.
I liked a lot of the S1 characters. Especially Zach, who showed that Max is really flawed and too weak, almost, because she can't save herself and her loved ones because she can't bring herself to leave them.
To DA?

Date: 2007-06-03 04:59 am (UTC)It's a failing of a lot of different media -- it tends to show up a lot in TV shows, though, because they run a lot of characters over a long period of time. I thought they were handling it pretty well in S1, but in relation S2 was a disaster, because there was so much potential and they tossed it away.
On the other hand, in regard to musicals, at least, I've noticed that the secondary characters are a lot more interesting than the mains -- the mains' love story or whatnot is always really predictable and boring, while the secondaries are always quirky and fascinating.
I loved Zack. It seems like everyone else in the DA fandom hates him, but he was one of hte most real of all the characters, because he was trying to save them, all of them, and Max didn't understand -- Max never understood. Still didn't in S2. Also, Zack's exit in the finale killed me. I was pretty disappointed with the way they brought him back in S2.
Well, the original that deals with the genetically engineered government issue supersoldiers, anyway.

Date: 2007-06-03 05:21 am (UTC)Okay, I'm slow on the uptake tonight, and didn't realize what DA was in the previous comment. So YES, tell me about your OC vs DA ;)
Zack was an awesome character, I agree. He was a bit of an ass, but he was down to earth, and his only goal was to care for those who couldn't take care of themselves, his brothers and sisters, and to keep them safe, and I respect that. Max was a bitch to him, anyways.
I really need to get and watch s2 someday!
