School starts tomorrow, joy of joys. *rolls eyes* At least it's my last year of high school, then I start college. Somewhere. Preferably far far away.

Anyway, my classes for this semester are:

Jazz Band (zero hour)
AP American Government
Advanced Lifetime Fitness
Foods
AP Senior English (which I think is technically AP Lit. and Comp., but I could be wrong)
Advanced Chemistry (arranged study)
Wind Ensemble

Because I'm applying for the QuestBridge National College Match program, I restructured my college list to fit the QuestBridge schools, of which I'll probably be applying to (through QuestBridge):

Stanford University
Williams College
Wellesley College
Bowdoin College
Yale University
Emory University
Columbia University
University of Chicago OR Wheaton College OR Swarthmore College

If that falls through, I'll send those apps on through to regular admission and also apply to my regular college list:

Stanford University
Williams College
Wellesley College
Brown University
University of Washington-Seattle
Davidson College
Dickinson College
Washington and Lee University

I may also be applying to the University of Portland and Tulane University, since they've offered me fee waivers. At worst case scenario, I'd be applying to fifteen colleges (which, you know, my list of eight is already a lot compared to most of my friends, who are looking at two or three, mostly in-state). We'll see how this plays out.

I added about 1300 words to one of SW fics last night -- the as yet untitled one that resides on my hard drive as the "Star Wars Clone Wars rampage fic" -- and typed up the 1220 words I've got of the AotC Qui-Gon lives AU, tentatively titled "What Is and What Should Never Be," although that title may, as many of my titles are wont to do, jump over to the crossover time travel story.

I'm almost certain the concept writing for "A Long Time Gone" is almsot done, which means I get to hop over into straight writing. I know more or less what happens through all of it. Well, except for that pesky middle section, but I know the beginning and I know the end and I know mostly how to set up for the third story. Which is going to have a happy ending! From a certain point of view, that is. *cough* I mean, I knew the ending already, but I just figured out how to make it happy.

The soundtrack thing for the 'verse? Working well. I need to take "Drought" off because it's totally Will Turner's song, but other than that -- need to go through the music on my other computer, which I now hate because I'm on my laptop all the time, but all my music is on my desktop -- and a little restructuring to slip things into certain positions, All Is Well. Well, except for "Samson", I go back and forth on whether or not it fits the Lostverse and canon or just the Lostverse. It may have to go. I have to think about it.

Okay, less rambling right now.

Come to the east! Come to the east! *pesters*

on a musical note: apparently the Williams College marching band is named "The Mucho Macho Moocow Military". I think this is awesome on principle, although I know nothing else about the school. (in Berkshires. Cold. Pretty. Expensive. Has a hockey team.)

It is highly likely I'll be going somewhere on the East Coast, since the only reason I'd be staying out west is (a), if Stanford gives me a full ride (or, you know, lets me in period) or (b), if everyone else rejects me and I go to the UW.

Oooh. I didn't even know Williams had a marching band. (I, uh, kind of stopped with the research thing. Too much effort.) On the other hand, Williams' mascot is the Purple Cow. I have yet to determine which is worse: the University of Oregon Ducks, the Evergreen State College Geoducks (which are clams. Really), the Williams College Purple Cows, or the University of Delaware Fightin' Blue Hens.

...where do colleges come up with these things?

The Purple Cow is just ridiculous. They do have a somewhat tongue-in-cheek "mythical" reason for why it's the purple cow (somewhere on their wiki).

The ducks isn't terrible. There's the Anaheim ducks, after all. Kinda dorky but not the worst.

I had no idea what a Geoduck is. Clams? Clams? That's like being the Fighting Kumquats, or something.

With some colleges I think it has to do with local history, and sometimes -- especially with smaller colleges that aren't really historically athletic powerhouses, some of it is just intended to be humorous or odd. (Banana Slugs = local ecology, for example). At my school, the mascot is just in conflict with the rest of the theme of the school. We have Clippercards (ID cards), our newspaper is the Log, the student system is Navigator, the quarterly magazine is the Sextant... and yet our mascot is the Vikings.

A geoduck (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geoduck) is a clam. Evergreen State is a strange, strange college. The school's motto is omnia extares, which translates to "let it all hang out."

...special, special school. Matt Groening (creator of The Simpsons) went there.

Aw, but it's cute they put it in Latin so it looks all formalized and stuff. :)

Well, it's like a law of colleges or something. "Must look formal, or at leat be able to fake it." *grin*

'scuse me while I look at my college and laugh.

Technically, we actually have a Latin motto -- "Progredi" -- that's on one of the previous college seals. Our current "seal" is this (http://www.salemstate.edu/publications/images/SSC-ship_black.gif).
