* New Orleans has apparently realized it is autumn. This -- for some reason it has triggered the "good student" part of my brain, which is sort of interesting. Of course, now it just means I feel bad about not studying at the moment.

* Went to the Quarter yesterday, wherein there were approximately ten million people wearing University of Houston shirts, which puzzled me until one of them saw my Tulane sweatshirt and went, "Oh, hey, TULANE," and I yelled, "Wait? Are we playing today?" *cough* I am the bad sports fan.

* I am not, however, the bad daughter, because I went to Hove Parfumeur and bought scented soaps that I can give to people for Christmas presents along with handknitted washcloths (those are...in progress), and to the Quarter-Stitch to buy a yarn for making my (Japanese) grandmother a shawl/scarf thing. This year, I will have Christmas presents! I will not be the bad daughter, or the bad granddaughter, or the bad cousin!

* I also bought myself three books (and one the day before, at Borders) from two used bookstores: Mr. Midshipman Hornblower (from Borders), Beat to Quarters, Lords of the North, and Bone by Bone.

* I read approximately one chapter and three pages of Mr. Midshipman Hornblower, then watched the first Hornblower movie. As one does. After the early ritual humiliation was over, I liked him much better. He is tiny and adorable and I kind of want to pat him on the head and feed him a cookie. And then I kind of hated the last shot, for some reason, not sure why. Also, wee tiny Jamie Bamber!

* It made me think of The Coastwise Lights, which makes me think of Narnia, which makes me think of Dust, which makes me feel guilty.

I wonder if it's worth it to drop my Russian Revolution class with record. It's at a really bad time -- I have found out that I handle having late afternoon/evening classes really badly, and it's on a day where I basically go straight from class to work to class -- it's way too long, and I don't care about the subject matter at all. Like, by any definition of the word.

I care so little that there is only one freaking thing that I am interested enough in to write a fifteen-page paper on. Or even a one page paper, Christ.

Also, this class has possibly turned me off Russia, tsarist, Soviet, or otherwise, for the rest of my life.

Unfortunately, this is my only (a) history class (reminder: I am a history major) and (b) honors class. (Of course, I only need to take one honors class a year, and there are two I want to take next semester. In subjects that I am actually INTERESTED in. Which I hear is helpful. Like, seriously, the only thing that I have learned from this class is that I do not care about the Russian Revolution whatsoever, and also, that massive amounts of incompetency makes me want to cry.)

Thoughts? People who know anything about academia?
